Bargain Military 'Hay' Hot Box,

With kind thanks to Mash I have found a Hay Box/Hot box that may be of use to campers, used to cook food or keep it hot, these are fantastic and from my old Arctic Warfare days, these were used daily for food supplies (when not on survival exercises Rolling with laughter ) . You can get them pre warmed up, put in part cooked food and leave it for 12hrs or so and it continues cooking with no power, food must be at boiling point when put in, also great for keeping stuff hot or for the occassional Pasties and Curry Laughing

It comes with a load of containers that must be useful in themselves, this is an absolute bargain, and great for your takeaways, or new pizza delivery job, just strap it on and off you go Thumbs Up

Looks great quality

It's insulated, so pre heat, place in hot food and it stays hot Wink

You could leave it plugged in to run as a slow cooker, even when unplugged will continue to carry on cooking.

Could be of use to some of the roughty toughty campers on here that go out in all weathers, taking food to a party, winter picnics e.t.c. Thumbs Up

This is a similar principle http://thermalcooker.wordpress.com/2008/07...e-booklet/

If you look through the site there is loads of interesting stuff for outdoors, you do wonder what the military are doing with some of the stuff, must be having a clearout Very Happy

Blimey, I did 4 consecutive winters in Norway and can't ever remember seeing a contraption like that Confused

Mind you I will admit to not spending much time in the kitchens, I did regularly warm my scoff up on the old 2.8 Granada engined BV manifold

Whistle

Everything we used out there ran on naphtha there weren't many power points to plug things into Idea

In a former life I was a SQMS feeding 100+ personnel 3 meals a day (plus the occasional Brigade Air Squadron RM who 'just happened' to turn up out of the f-ing blue one cold, dark evening in Germany! Quote from my OC (a Booty), "Q, can you flash up a meal for about 120? They'll be here in about an hour." My reply? "Why, of course, Sir. Absolutely no problem at all." Luckily I had 2 of the best field cooks in the bloody Army who could work miracles.

Anyway, as regards the hayboxes. Never seen'em in me life.

Yup DT. You must have been in some rear echelon camp to even get hay box meals in Norway. Laughing In 17 winters I only ever got Arctic Ration packs. Big Cry

I still can't figure out where one puts the hay. Nothing like the hay boxes we had in 1960s, but a bit like a tiffin carrier.

Went by different routes, either by LSL (Gallahad or Geraint) or via Hercules from Brize Norton Thumbs Up

Would drive from Trondheim to Tromso, about 1,500km on studded tyres in Defenders towing trailers Wink

We didn't get many nights ashore but when we did, we certainly made the best of it Very Happy

Chalky - as an ML with the first being Clockwork 71 with 45 Cdo RM.

We must have all been deployed together at some stage.
