The alientech firmware and software can be downloaded from the italian main site and serves many different cars. awaiting the d4 release "soon".
The alientech kit and the software is good, no need to be frightened there. The mapping files on the other hand can be as different as chalk and cheese. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

Ill just clarify a few things for the people who may or may not be interested.
BAS vs Alientech Powergate !!!
How can i be compared with Alientech they ONLY make the hardware for me and many other tuners NOT tuning files, Just as Panasonic make my Toughbooks, And Snap-on make my hand tools.
Does this now make it BAS vs Alientech vs Panasonic vs Microsoft vs Nothern electric vs My landlord ?
No because all those people have nothing to do with the final tuning i write for my customers cars.
As said i resell a pre manafactured peice of hardware to my customers for the use of installing my software onto cars that are branded to my company, its irelevent who makes it or how much it costs they dont pay my 40k+ per year developement costs and software updates that i need to do my job ! I DO.
Some of the critics may want to have a read in this months Land Rover Enthusiast magazine and you will see the extent i go to to do what i do, and the costs involved.
Simon Hodder from Land Rover Enthusiast magazine recently came to see us at our York workshops to find out more about how we tune a Land Rover and whas it involved im sure it will make a few of you think ohhhh i didnt relise what was actually done behind the scenes that most cheaper tuners take for granted when buying in pre tuned files.
RE fault codes, if any of you who have my interface need to quote my name at your dealers for reading your cars faults with the dealer IDS/SDD , feel free.
Afterall me, you and anyone who has a car is entitled to read there own fault codes, there is no secrets here its common knowlage of the block exemption rules.
And that said, even if you have my interface, who says you use it for tuning ? you may only have it for OBD fault code reading for your own reference.
Last but not least, its common knowlage that although i sell the BAS remap tool , i do still offer remaps at my workshops WITHOUT hardware if you feel the hardware is not needed
And for petej's reference, it costs less because there is no hardware needed
Its also known well by many of Allisports and my other tuning dealers customers who dont buy hardware i also put the mapping back on after a dealer visits and have done so many times so nothing new there.
But lets not forget the used resale value of the BAS box when you change cars and dont need the remap any more, if you choose the NO HARDWARE option, All your money is gone for ever.
At least with the BAS box you can remove it from your car, use again on your new one if applicable or sell it on to recoup some of the initial cost of it.
To me it seems like a win win situation as 2 of my previous customers have found out.
Pete

Some sad news is the D4 will not be added to the current build type BAS OBD tuning/programming box, well i cant at least see it happening in very near future because of several reasons.
The new modern Bosch EDC17 ecus fitted with the Tricore TC1796 processor which has anti tuning protection V7 built in.Not only that the RSA signature needed for OBD programming is a very complex algoritham and not yet fully reverse engineered on the latest ECU's.
ftp://ftp.efo.ru/pub/infineon/TC179_5Fds_5Fv03.pdf
Pages 33,34,35 & 36 are interesting.
it talks about read and write protection and also password protection all of which are active on the new EDC17 landrover D4 and RRS 2010 cars.
The best and only method at the moment is to force read/write the CPU by entering Bootstrap mode as seen on page 69 thus enabeling/forceing readout and write of the data content and bypassing the protection.
Here is a snippet of the 11Bit CAN traffic when programming the engine ecu by OBD if anyone fancys a bit of bed time reading

From there site it only states the obvious bootstrap mode, but i supose anything is possibile.
But that said KESSV2 is a totally different peice of hardware to the existing units that are out there.
However if they do crack it , it will be a nice peice of kit they are good at there job with out a doubt.
The new generation ECUs do not arrest our work! We are completing the development of communication protocols for the new Bosch devices, equipped with Infineon Tricore microprocessors.
Soon available:
EDC17CP09 BMW (x30D)
EDC17CP02 BMW (120D/123D)
