Basil Fawlty Moment!

If I'd had a tree branch I would have beaten it to death! According to my bank statements I have, during ten years of Discovery 3/4 ownership, spent enough money to have built a completely new vehicle. The joy of Discovery ownership as many will know. This morning, however, was the last straw.

After starting my MY15 HSE to leave the local Health Centre car park, I accelerated away only to quickly realise that the gearbox had gone on strike. No warning lights just a racing engine until I was able to pull over. Stopped the engine, waited, then restarted but didn't have the courage to pull away. So I connected my GAP IID.....no fault codes. I didn't go any further but decided to drive away and see what happened. As you can probably guess, she pulled smoothly away and drove perfectly.

I love Land Rovers but this time I think it's going to be goodbye. Trouble is I don't fancy anything else. Anyway back to the gearbox problem, I would appreciate any thoughts.

Sorry, I've not been clear. What I meant was I pulled away in 1st but it didn't change up. After finding no codes and being switched off for awhile the gearbox behaved normally.

Its an EU problem, the German bit (ZF gearbox) is not talking to the French bit (PSA engine) and there fore nothing happens.

Sometimes its just a gremlin which never repeats, could also be she heard you talking about her to someone else Laughing

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it for now. Do another IID check in a few days and make sure you have the "pending" box ticked. Thumbs Up

Yep done that loads of times! Swmbo is always catching her nails talons on the flap!!

Jags with the same gearbox have a menu option to enable paddles in sport mode only, which is much better.

So are you going to retract your statement about leaving the brand then as it you not the car at fault?

I am the legal owner of a Land Rover Discovery 4, and the former owner of a Discovery 3 and another Discovery 4. I even owned a FFRR Autobiography for a week but SWMBO was not a happy teddy hence my second D4. I therefore believe that my record entitles me to threaten to get rid at least once everyday of my ownership. It also entitles me to robustly (just like Theresa May, I too can be robust) defend my Disco, to the death if necessary, from any adverse comment or observation made by non-Discovery owners. Neutral

As my hero said, "Never apologise (or retract) son, it's a sign of weakness." Thumbs Up
