Battery charging

I need some help with battery charging on my 2005 d3. It has a duel battery system.
I've connected the ctek to the original battery and get no reading and it doesn't look like it's charging. What am I doing wrong. Do I need to connect to the aux battery.

It's the 3.8. No battery condition lights on. Works fine on other cars.
When first set the mode light is set for 12v vehicle. That then goes out and the little light, bottom left, flashes green.

Does that suggest the main battery is shot and the aux is powering everything. All dash lights come on when key turned in ignition.

Ok. So not dead battery then.

Really silly Q. But are the leads making good contact with the battery terminals!

Sure you've got the + to + and - to -?
Disconnect the + terminal and connect direct to the battery.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I would disconnect the aux battery and see what voltage is on the main battery, less than 12 volts you have a problem.

Leads making good contact and connected correctly. Tried direct to battery. Same scenario.
I'm going to try connecting to aux battery to see if that works.

Yep as GT said disconnect aux and charge each individually to rule out either as faulty, generally most VSR isolators will disconnect the aux automatically when the main drops below a certain voltage.
Once the main is charged current will then flow to the aux battery.

A voltage sensing relay has no idea of the charge state of a battery, it will connect the batteries together when the voltage goes above a setpoint. If the charger/alternator can supply enough current it will connect 2 completely flat batteries together. The relay being closed tells you nothing about the state of either battery. This is why DC/DC chargers have become more popular.

Of course it does how else do you think it connects and disconnects ? - by sensing voltage.

The voltage across a battery when it's charging doesn't tell you how charged it is. You need to know the current draw like an intelligent charger does. A voltage sensing relay will trigger as soon as the charging voltage goes over the setpoint, it dosent know anything about the battery.

Strikes me you’ve got a dead main battery and the system is running on the auxiliary battery. Big Cry
