Battery or wiring

Hi all,

My new (to me) D3 seems to have an issue with the keys. Remote worked fine when we picked it up but now appears to be dead so having to use the emergency access route. Strange thing is my wife seems to think once she’s been out in it, the key has enough to lock it once then nothing else. I’ve read through the forums on the wiring issue down on the passenger side but before I start to pull it about, could it be a battery issue? I thought the dash would say if a low battery in the key though.

So far so good though, we did a couple of green lanes at the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Paul

Given what you wife says, I would plumb for a new battery required in that key. . Its charging enough when in the ignition, to operate once to lock, but when left there isn't enough charge to unlock. New case and battery required. If you search there are plenty of links advising how to do I or send it away to be repaired. Is it just the one or both there is a problem.

Agree with L319, sounds like the fob batteries may have lost their ability to hold a charge, but just if both are having the same issue.

BTW it would help other members in future if you updated your profile to show model & age of your Discovery
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Thanks chaps.

I’ll ping the key off for a new case and battery (easy option first) and see how we get on. I remember the days when car keys would have a red indicator light so it was easy to see if a battery had gone. Neither my BMW or my wife’s R32 have it and now the D3!

Cheers
