BBC News this morning
Finally our message seems to be getting through. Each time 4x4's get critiscised, we write letters and send emails to counter the argument, and at long last the Beeb seems to have noticed. Its a bit long but the episode of newswatch contains a good pro 4x4 section.
Although the statement that most 4x4's are petrol guzzlers is not true, and I am going to email the program to correct them.

Got to love the BBC editor who is asked to justify the BBC's prejudice against 4x4's. Basically he says it is just so easy to use the simple, short "4x4" expression in lieu of the words "gas guzzling vehicle", that despite the fact that it is a mispresentation, he accepts the BBC have regularly done this in the past. He implied that the BBC will try to stop doing this in future - suggest we keep an eye open and let them know if they fail to mend their ways.
And the best bit is, that same editor admits (at 10.07 minutes in) that he drives a "small, non polluting, 4x4" himself - would be really interested to know what model that is then With that level of intelligence and commitment to accuracy, we might as well give up and stay at home .....
Gareth, when you email the program can you ask what non polluting car that chap actually drives - the world needs to know, so we can all get one....Disco 4 TDV6HSE

The BBC's accuracy of reporting has fallen to new depths. What was once an institution to be proud of has fallen into disrepair like many other of our national treasures. The reporting recently with regards to the aviation accident in Afghanistan was little short of disgraceful.
The Beeb's reporting of 4x4 issues is just another example of misguided class envy. I drive about 6000 miles a year in my D3 - I think I push out less carbon than Mondeo man who does 15000 miles a year and jets off twice a year to the Costas. The BBC is owned by us the licence payer and is meant to be unbiased but more and more the journalists' shoulder chips are showing through.
