Best place to get a 5.0 V8 D4? |
|
Hi all
Ive sold my wife's faithful 2004 D3 HSE 2.7tdv6 after owning it since 2013 and racking up 75k miles to 205k on clocks
it was getting too long in the tooth so decided to get rid and took the cash.
very happy considering I only paid 8000 for it all these years ago!
Any how, Ill be looking to replace it after the wedding in May next year, as shes now currently driving my Defender 110 XS USW and Im in my mums old Freelander2 td4,
Im tucking away the £5000 til then, and ill be looking to import a D4 5.0 v8 as the SDV6's seem too cranksnaphappy for me!
Ive seen one in Dubai for 8000 on a 2012 and can have it landed in UK with duty paid for around 3-4k.
or a 2014 D4.5 SCV6 in USA with a broken headlight for £9000
Any other markets to look at, Dont mind LHD but RHD is a bonus

Seems USA and Middle East are the best priced places at the moment.

Early D4s in the US had the V8, bit only the older box. The V8s carry a premium coz it’s the US and a V8. The V6 got the 8 speed. I’m sure you know that. The V8s aren’t that cheap. A young D4 V6 (say 2016) with low miles fully loaded are expensive at $45-50k. Shipping from the US is dead easy and super cheap. Don’t know about taxes/duty.
What do you think you could get a D4 V8 for at what mileage? PAGODA

There are a few LHD V8s and V6s for sale in Europe on Mobile.de and AutoScout24. You might want to take a look.
The petrol D4 was V8 until MY13 and V6 after that until end of production. I think the V8 is Euro 5 and the V6s are all Euro 6. Not that emissions really matter as the low emission zones seem make Euro 4 gasoline equivalent to Euro 6 diesels in terms of emissions... so my D3 V8 is compliant for ULEZ.

You’re searching for an unicorn 8)
Take a look at Japanese car auctions as that’s probably one of the few countries where those were sold as RHD and petrol... and South Africa (I think), possibly Australia and New Zealand.

The D4 5.0 V8 suffer from engine timing chain tensioner issues check to make sure they don't need to be replaced or have been replaced a very expensive job. If it rattles when you turn it on thats one of the signs. Also leaking water pumps.

Definitely look closely at Japan. Most of the used D4s on the roads down here come from there, including my own.
My 2011 had just 45,000 kms when I got it, and is a high spec. It was a heck of a lot of car for not a lot of cash. King of the typo.
MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!
