Best way to fit an Oz Tent to LR Roof Rails?
Have a 3 Berth Oz tent (it's heavy) which I want to secure to my LR roof rails. Is there any sort of gizzmo that I can buy to achieve tjhis or do I just by a length of rope? Cheers guys

You could buy a tray & fix it to the roof bars ( or do you only have the front to back rails ?)

Boab the UK importers of OZtent products do a roof mount tube that the tent sits in. I have the RV5 that sits in a length of basket that electricians use for containment above false ceilings, this is attached to the LR roof bars with very large cable ties. Done quite a few miles with out any drama. TFC would be a good bloke to PM as he sells OZtents and may have a carrier in stock.Club Exped trailer

Take out the rubber strips (from the cross bars) insert some t-track tie down eyelets (so they lie either side of the Oztent) then tie it down with straps.
Fixes down very tight and securely
Bit noisy wind wise unless you replace the rubber strips (cut and re-insert either side of the eyelets).
Rhino do a rack from BOAB as stated but its quite pricey.
EDIT - changed roof rails to cross bars... wasn't thinking right

Si, Strap it directly on the roof between the rails ?

nooo on the cross bars.
i guess you could strap it to the roof but I would want to make sure the paint was clean, a foam pad was used and it was not going to move at all... and that no dirt gets under the whole things while your tearing along the motorway.

Thats more or less what the BOAB tray is but with a tube welded to the top edge and powdercoated. You could have one made up quite cheaply.

Jees I hope Budweiser is still about Only got around to making up basket for recent holiday and worked a treat.
Used two lengths of electricians basket/ tray and cut to length. Then using a forklift and an RSJ, I kept the middle of the top length flat and slightly bent the sides in a bit. Then I purchased 2 x sets of 3 rubber coated padlocks in Homebase ( 1 key opens 3 locks, very handy) I put 3 of the locks on the inside of the set-up and didnt open them at all -
When you close the lid its a tight squeeze but thats good cos it stops rattles or the oztent sliding out under braking. The 3 other lock hung out so to speak and that made it easy to lock/ unlock them. Safe as houses and plenty of confidence to head off for a few hours sightseeing without the worry of someone robbing it when the car is parked up.
I used a set of Rhino rack fittings to attach the full set up, got them off Boab for 30quid ISTR
Pic not great but you get the idea
