Bi Xenon

Hi,

I got my D3 today...........Its great what a great drive! Its so much better than my Cayenne S that I traded in.

Anyway, it a 2005 model HSE Its supposed to have Bi-Xenon lights however, I cant see the beam turn when I turn into a corner nor do the beams do a self movement test when I switch the lights on (Cayenne Did)??

Is there an easy way to tell if it is Bi-Xenon as oppossed to Xenon....or are all HSE Bi-Xenon by default?

Cheers

Allan

Hi Allan,

The 2005 model HSE does have the Bi-Xenon lights but the adaptives (with the beam turning feature) did not appear until the 2006 model - sorry about that.

It should have Xenons and you should be able to see this by having like a glass ball in the headlight unit and no headlamp leveling switch on the light control panel. I think your car will have standard Xenon's but is a little too early for them to be adaptive unless they were specified when new.

Enjoy your car though

turn the lights on manually before starting the car, if they're adaptives, they 'do the dance', you'll also have the H7 lamp in the sidelight compartment of the lighting cluster - if you don't, they're not adaptives

The landrover definition of Bi-Xenon is:
Xenon gas-discharge lamps produce a brighter, whiter beam with twice the light output and 60% more spread than the glowing filament and reflector system of conventional Halogen lamps. The result is a headlamp that gives deeper, more effective illumination of the full width of the road, while using 30% less power and with five times the lifespan.

Bi-xenon headlamps use a single xenon lamp to produce both the high beam and the low beam. The full light output is used to produce the high beam, while the low beam is formed by moving a shutter between the bulb and the lens, thus blocking off a portion of the light.

I think they are adaptive I tried the manual on method and I think they danced Smile

I did not want to do too many on/off I have set the lights for manual use> I will keep an eye on it.

Cheers

There will be no think about it, its very noticable. Is it a 2005MY or a 2005 built car? From memory it was the 2006MY that started the adaptives, they are actually pretty good and the kids love them!

Interesting to hear objective differences between the two. What did you use yours for (on and off road) What is the experience like of owning one etc.

I only had the Cayenne S for 2 month prior to the Disco. All on road use.

Porsche good points:-
Its a Porsche Smile
Its very fast
Nice quality.
Great 6 speed auto box.
Very good dealer customer care.

Porsche Bad points:-
Poor steering very heavy & not, for me anyway, nice to drive around town.
Very thirsty average 15.8 mpg town & dual carriageway mix.
I had steel suspension.Very hard ride. Air much better
Insurance expensive & tracker required.
The Cayenne with the smaller engine is better to drive but very slow compared to Cayenne S.

Disco 3 Possitive.
A different world much better steering and for me the better all round package. It will also be better off road/snow etc.
More space.
Nicer interior
Looks better
More MPG
Cheaper insurance

If I had test drove a Disco 3 at the same time as Porsche I would have purchased the Disco!

Disco Negative.
Auto box a bit slow to change in comparison to Porsche, but still ok.

I hope this is useful?

Cheers

Hi,

I think you have sorted it now, but I have a 2005 S with Bi-Xenon that re defo not adaptive, but i had a loaner 2006 HSE that defo did have adaptive as well as loads of other stuff mine doeasnt have ( Crying or Very sad boo-hoo).

As others have said, you can easily see them dance around and if you have slow tight corners, you can clearly see them moving.

I found them really usefull on the roads around here - but hey, back to the S now and the lowley Bi Xenon without adaptive. I'll struggle on! Wink
