Binding brake issue....

After a short (20 minute) journey this morning,I noticed an acrid smell,so checked round and couldn't see anything obvious.
Checked the front discs and the drivers side was a lot hotter than the other one,so I suspect it was binding.
Returned home and about to ring the Dealer, but after checking it seems to have freed itself,or at any rate it didn't do it again.
I have a 5 hour round trip tomorrow,so obviously I'm hoping its a one-off,but from those in the know, does it tend to be a sign of a more long-term issue needing addressed quickly ie this afternoon ?

My nearside rear one is exactly the same. Sometimes sticks, then frees itself off.its a pain in the backside.

Just had Disco Mickey replace the rear near side caliper for that very reason as it was now more often stuck than free. Nothing obviously wrong with the removed one, except pistion not going back!

I think what Flack meant to say was:

If so then that's what I would say and furthermore it will cause you inconvenience at the worst time possible Whistle

That's what I was hoping to get done this afternoon, but now won't be able to before the drive tomorrow typically......it's due a service in January, was hoping to hold off til then, but as has been said, don't want to get stranded in the meantime.....just been out again and it was fine again, guess I don't have a choice Neutral

Might be worth mentioning here the temporary fix of carrying a few part-worn pads in this situation. A sticking piston can wear the pads down to metal very quickly and may not go back enough to get a set of new ones in. If all else fails one can take out the pads and clamp the flexible pipe - just to get it (very carefully) off the mountain of course. Whistle

My near side rear did this a few days after I bought it. I just took the pads out, pumped the Pistons out to the maximum, gave them a good clean off, sprayed some WD40 over them then pushed the piston back in with a little more squirty WD40 around the seal. Been absolutely fine ever since.

Had the exact same back in 2012 - acrid smell like tyres burning and very hot discs. It will get worse - smoking worse! I soon got my discs and pads replaced under warranty because of it.

Looks like I've got the OS rear binding Big Cry

TPMS has started shouting at me, tyre pressure on that side was up to 47 psi after a 10 mile blast on the motorway.

Strangely enough, it seems to be exacerbated when the tin tent is on the back but that probably just me being more aware.

That's another weekend b*ggered Whistle
