Al that's the problem with the D3 its such a great tow vehicle you often forget there's something behind you

As DG said in Morocco Slow Slow Slow SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whistle

And no I'm not endorsing lane 3 travel with a trailer in a three lane carriageway just the same as the non professional 7 1/2 box boys think they can use it as well Twisted Evil

Well Censored me - you learn something new every day (even stuff that you really ought to know...)

Couldn't find any details in the online Highway Code, but found this from http://www.traffic-answers.co.uk/motorways.htm

Q. Can I tow in the right-hand lane?
A. On a motorway with 3 or more lanes, vehicles towing a trailer are not allowed in the right-hand lane. This applies to all trailers, no matter how small, and include such things as jet-skis etc.

Q. What vehicles are banned from using the 3rd lane of a 3 lane motorway?
A. As I've mentioned above, you are not allowed to tow anything in the right-hand lane of a motorway which has 3 or more lanes in each carriageway. Goods vehicles with a maximum gross weight in excess of 7500kgs are also banned from this lane, as are coaches which have more than 8 seats, apart from the driver's, and have a maximum gross weight in excess of 7500kgs.

Q. Are there any exceptions to this rule?
A. These vehicles are allowed into the 3rd lane if:
they need to pass an abnormally wide load, which would usually be under Police escort;
if one of the lanes is closed; or where a 2-lane motorway carriageway merges with another, or with a slip-road, and creates a 3-lane carriageway. In this case the exempted vehicles can stay in the 3rd lane until it is safe and practical for them to cross to Lane 1 or Lane 2.

PS. I also found this comment whilst looking for the above:

Drivers who hog the middle lane of the motorway should be stopped by the Police, have their car confiscated and crushed and be made to walk home.

The legal bit

265
The right-hand lane of a motorway with three or more lanes MUST NOT be used (except in prescribed circumstances) if you are driving

any vehicle drawing a trailer
a goods vehicle with a maximum laden weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 7.5 tonnes, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter/tachograph
a goods vehicle with a maximum laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes
a passenger vehicle with a maximum laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes constructed or adapted to carry more than eight seated passengers in addition to the driver
a passenger vehicle with a maximum laden weight not exceeding 7.5 tonnes which is constructed or adapted to carry more than eight seated passengers in addition to the driver, which is required to be fitted with a speed limiter

This joker is so lucky he hasn't been spotted by one gent I know who has a "blue painted pointed head". This gent would pull him, spend two hours giving a little roadside education, a full vehicle inspection and a ticket for each and every fault (no "bulking up" of faults), plus the speeding/outside lane ticket(s) as appropriate, then, and only then would the joker be allowed to leave the scene (unless there were too many faults in which case a recovery truck would be requested and the joker escorted to the most suitable Police station.
Call him a Censored but his first wife was killed by an incosiderate Censored towing a trailer which suffered a blow out as oevertook her....
We have a superb tow vehicle in the Disco3 - the trailer is the weak link. Most trailer tyres and bearings aren't rated for much more than the legal limit, and if one gives out at speed on a crowded motorway........
