Bleedin thirsty these D4's when towing!

Have a loaner D4, brand new, for the past week and a few days.... only getting around 360 - 365 miles from a brim to brim fill Shocked

Me d3 gives me 390+ doing the same job Thumbs Up

Impressed by the general get up and go of the D4 but just too costly to fuel, perhaps in 10k miles it will perform better I guess Whistle

i tow a 1600kg caravan with 4 bikes on the car roof, get anywhere from 22 to 24 mpg depending on terrain and external temp - dont consider that bad, its only generally 1 to 2 mpg worse than the FL2 we had towing the same outfit

For us a twin axle, 1800Kgs tintent, bikes and kayaks on the roof & rear rack and all the paraphenalia required for a family of 5.

I 'maintain' the maximum allowable speed limits and 'keep up' with the traffic, previous manual D3 gave 23mpg towing, D4 on the same journeys hovers around 20. The auto is so much nicer to tow with.

On the D4 the fuel tank capacity (usable) is 82.3 litres I think the D3 was 86 litres

I'm getting abot 3-4mpg worse than my D3 for everyday day driving but that is because car is so much more drivable Laughing

Even tho D3 was no slouch , i found myself driving nice and steady. However, the D4 seems so much more eager that I tend to drive it that way !! Laughing

Keep thinking I must go back to my 'economy driving style' but just cant Laughing
 Cheers Ian

What else is different in your opinion.... suspension setup better for towing?? You still considering the new Ford Ranger?

On my D4 with 30,000 km I am getting an average of 28 MPG, 11.13l/100 averaged since new in March, and I am very happy. My previous patrol got an average of 23-24MPG and was nowhere near as powerful or comfortable to drive as it really was a truck.
Before I bought the Disco I looked at the Toyota Landcruiser 200 with the 4.5 V8 diesel and several others but the Landrover won out especially on fuel consumption, comfort and power; especially so when getting past a 45 metre road train in the outback. I do not want to be on the wrong side of the road longer than necessary.
To say I am impressed with the Landrover is an understatement;2.7 tons and with such a good fuel consumption is brilliant.
