Looks like the back end has been sitting in a saltwater bath (front is good, surprisingly).
Best solution, if keeping the vehicle for a decent length of time, would be body off, professionally repair the really bad bits on the body, clean and treat the chassis and then bring the parts back together. That way you could be satisfied that nothing was missed. The worry if not doing a body off would be rear seat and belt mounting points being compromised and not spotted thereby putting rear seat passengers at dire risk if the vehicle was involved in a major event.
The cost is going to be high if others do the repairs for you though...LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)
If that was my vehicle I would study the figures very closely.
First thoughts are that it will not be economically viable to repair it.
Then the issue is sell "as is", or break it one's self which would no doubt yield more funds, over time, but would also involve much effort & mess.

Jesus that’s rough.
I’ve seen some scabby sills and my own cars back arch and rear sill area is getting a bit rough but that’s shocking.
What’s he been using it for?

Mine is an '05 car that spend a lot of its life in Scotland towing horse boxes, so underside of sill covers was covered in mud and horse poo; I purchased in Aug 2015 and set about treating what rust I have found on the car.

Hi
He’s got a quote of £300 from a recommended welder to sort it out
Of course as pics become available will indeed post them here for u
As mentioned ref the salt water i wonder if it’s been used to launch boats regularly
Will keep updated as progress is made
Also pleased I treated all mine with dinitrol
Also agree should be body off, maybe as the welder starts removing panels it may become a write off ???
Prior to me owning it, my 300tdi spent part of every winter in the Alps and rest of year hauling a seadoo in and out of lakes and the sea. There was nothing like the corrosion on this D3 on any chassis bits.
Sadly it was the sills (or poor repairs to them IMHO) that made it "beyond economic" in the end. .
