Boot door bike rack
As has been mentioned on another thread, and not wanting to keep going off topic, I've started another thread.
Some have mentioned that boot lid bike racks, (As seen in pic below) shouldn't be used on a disco.
If that is true then the question is why?
You can add a ladder and climb it so clearly it's not a weight.
I know people will use them on their disco, just wondered if any one has an official line?

I know people use them and meaning no disrespect to yourself that's not what I'm after.
If you try to get one via halfrauds or Thule direct, they don't have one for a disco.
I'm interested as to why this is. Someone at LR has obviously decided it shouldn't be done and I want to know why.

Depending on the type of rack I can see a few problems with them.
If any part rests against the glass then it won’t take much of a pothole to break the glass.
Depending on the type you won’t be able to open the upper door.
If you can open the upper door with the carrier attached then the struts will struggle to keep the door open....
if you try it with bicycles on it.... biggest mouse trap ever 🤣

I can't help with why Thule do not do one. I found mine on ebay for about £20

Again thanks but not what I'm after.
If it can't be done it should be laid down somewhere. Otherwise really it's just rumours.
I can appreciate that it's on glass but so are most of the others.

Following on reference opening if you have a hatchback and one of these, you have to remove the bikes anyway. I remember it saying to do so on the instructions so that can't be the reason

I've used one of these on other cars and they are a not the firmest when the car is moving. Try getting a roof system one.

I bought a thule universal one second hand for my old Range Rover - now used on the Disco BUT it's towbar mounted and has lights and a number plate.
One issue with the ones that clamp to your tailgate (on any car) is that your rear reg plate and lights can be partially or even totally obscured by the bikes - especially for multiple larger bikes.

I imagine this would be true of any manufacturer - for the reasons I stated above - it's of dubious legality in relation to lights and reg plate.
