Boot Lock - Boot Open yet closed?

Cant see a post specific to this weird one, but possibly is on here somewhere.

On my D4 the top tailgate has started being a Censored . Quite often when I close the top part the car is still saying the lid is open, due to this I cannot lock the car, but I also cannot then open the boot as the handle wont respond, presumably because it thinks its open already?

I have a new top lock latch to go in, as it looks a bit worse for ware, but I'm wondering if there's a sensor fitted inside that is registering the boot open/ closed which may have failed or is not engaging properly. Before I strip the boot to replace the lock is there anything else I may need for this fault before I go ahead and do it?

I had a similar problem, which appears to have disappeared after I had the actuator replaced. (Part = £50, labour = 1 bottle of gin for a mate who is more gifted than me).

Before the fix was applied, I got round the problem by starting the car and ignoring the open tailgate warning. I then used the internal button on the driver's door to lock and open the car. the boot would then open and behave as if nothing had happened.

Yeh tried that bit, car just laughs and carry on either leaving me stuck outside or stuck trying to get in!

The actuator is fitted in the lower tailgate door? Do you know the part number?

Follow up -

New actuator arrived, typically the car decided that it was not going to open one last time to allow the work to be done. Problem being the actuator would not open the boot but then would cut out after x amount of attempts. Plugged into a Bosch system Bow down Bow down and forced the actuator to operate, quickly pressing the force open over and over it then suddenly caught and popped open! The joys of decent diagnostic equipment!

New part fitted all good and running now
