Brake part replacement - one or both?

I've noticed in the last week that my brakes are a little spongy and on checking I have a slight weeping on the front nearside brakes. It looks like it is at the join of the brake pipe with the calliper.

Firstly, is it likely to be the calliper or the pipe that needs replacing?

Secondly, do I need/recommended to replace both sides at the same time if it is a new calliper?

Finally, if it is the pipe what are people's thoughts on the Britpart Stainless steel braided hose kit? They appear to be the only ones doing the stainless steel kits for D4's and I know from my D2 days that Britpart don't have the best name for quality.

Thanks for any help on this.
 Tony

If it's leaking at the pipe joint, it's likely that it's not done up properly, or was incorrectly fitted.

A new set of pipes should sort that, if they are fitted properly.

If you do end up changing a caliper, you can change just one BUT the preference would always be to do brakes symmetrically. The chances are, if one caliper has failed, the other one won't be far behind.

Thanks for that. Thought that would be the case but wanted to be sure.

Any thoughts on the braided hoses?

No, no experience on the Discovery. Have use braided hoses on my classic cars. If you chose to get them, make sure all the fittings are stainless, or they'll corrode away long before the pipes fail.

Cheers. On my D2 we had an option for Goodridge hoses which had a good name, but Britpart are more commonly known as S*itpart because of the quality issues.

Just be interested in knowing if a Britpart stainless hose is better than a quality non-stainless hose?

Google HEL Performance. They make, among other things, brake hoses which are considered quite good.. or lasting long.
