brake pedal problem....help |
|
My d3 has developed a strange problem that i hope someone out there can help me with....
my brakes work when slowing down fine but when it comes to the actual stopping my brake pedal seems to go so far then stops and i can't press it far enough to get the last bit to stop and have to hope it stops in time. its as though i can't press pedal far enough, had a quick look and can't see anything inside stopping the pedal arm etc from moving.
i have just had the front brakes upgraded to the v8 ones and that has made no difference.
looking for someone out there with all the knowledge of you members to help me out. discovery 300 tdi....gone.

Has it had the servo vacume pipework mod done? If not the air lines may be full of oil stopping you having servo assistance.

Make sure you don't have a brake fluid leak - the pipes are prone to corroding between the rear wheels where the steel brake pipe has quite a few bends. Check the fluid level in the reservoir and that there aren't any drips under the car. Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Get someone to press the brake pedal and look if the brake hoses are bulging. .

fluid looks clean no contaminates, pipes don't bulge. when you press the pedal it goes down then goes solid like its hit a brick wall, not spongy at all, no give at all at full push.
its doing my head in now discovery 300 tdi....gone.

I have been busy today and not had chance to follow up, sit in the drivers seat with your foot on the brake pedal start the engine if there is a vacume to servo the pedal will go down as the servo works if this doesn’t happen the you have a problem with oil blocking the vacume pipes and contaminating the servo it’s self. Also search for the fault on this forum you should find pictures of model vehicles so that you can compare yours to the modification.

done that, it does go down but only about a quarter of an inch. but to be honest there is not much pedal movement at all, even when driving.
are you saying it needs a new brake servo unit? discovery 300 tdi....gone.

I can’t say that from here but you definitely need to have that area investigated by somebody that knows what they are doing and can sort it properly Flack has already been mentioned for your area best PM him.
