Brake service

How often do folks in here service the brakes and by that I mean remove pads clean up holders and inspect, some copper slip on the sliders etc . Getting some brake squeal at the moment and might be a sign they are needing done ? Thing is looks like new pads to me and would fit in with mileage and year age of car .
