Braking vibration.

I am recently getting sone vibration under high speed braking on my D3.
When I had this problem on my D2, it was down to the caliper sliders on the front needing some lube. I dont notice it with local rural driving but it was very apparent when I was on the motorway to London the other week. Can the vibration only be felt if it is the front sliders, or can it be felt from the back ones too. The reason I ask is because I had cleaned the wheels befor my journey (face & backs), but now the rear O/S wheel has a lot more brake dust on it than the others.

You don't say if the vibration is felt in the steering which would indicate the issue is with front brakes. If the vibration only happens under braking then its likely a sticking caliper, a warped disc, or both.

If the vibration is present without braking it is possibly the wheel is not seated on the hub correctly, or something has interfered with the mating surfaces. (dirt) Other possibilities include wheel balance (did you disturb the weights when cleaning?) or a wheel bearing.
A warped rear disc will cause vibration, but will feel different to the front.

Time to strip off the wheels and calipers for an inspection, and check/lube the sliders.

Have you had your control arms inspected? That would be another possible source. When I bought my 06 it needed front control arms and front brake pads/rotors.

I don't remember if the vibe is felt through the steering or not as I don't get to use the Landy too much as it is more of a spare car at the mo. I will take it for a spin down the main road & check this.

As regards to checking mechanics, I will have to wait until the weather improves.

I have noticed a couple of times on the Motorway that I occasionally thought I felt a very light rumbling for a while driving at about 70, & just put it down to road surface. But the next time I was on the same stretch at about the same speed, it did not happen. I did feel this as well a couple of times on my trip to London.

I will get back with these other checks.
