Bridel Quarry, Luxembourg, 26, 27 September 2009

Some photos from the LR Luxembourg launch of the new models at Bridel Quarry this weekend:

D4 Stornoway Grey:

D4 Nara Bronze:

D4 Zambezi Silver:

D4 Ipanema Sand:

D4 20" wheel:

On the D4, the darker colours suit the car much better, IMHO. The Ipanema Sand is really more of a silver colour. It looks great on the RRS, but not on the D4. Also, the Arabica dash works very well with the Almond leather, and the Piano Grand Lacquer is 8)

JF Lux and I took a D4 3.0L out on the road and, OMG, it's a superb car. Bow down

Bridel Quarry (some more pics) 26 Sept 09

Some more pictures from a day out with LR Lux. We got to drive some LR vehicles as "official drivers" (which did mean having some passengers with us...I don't think I frightened any... Whistle ) and we could also have a play as well...

Some people were very particular as to how the D4 on display was looking...

We had some fun...it was very dry and dusty which made some areas easy and others a bit different to what we were used to.

NJF (and some others)

Yes...I did get stuck at one point...problem was that as soon as you lost a bit of traction, the ground was so sandy you ended up digging yourself deeper into sand and rocks...

(In the above section we tried 2 different recoveries when I got bogged down - one with a rope and one with a winch. Neither worked. Even with the winch, NJF ended up winching himself closer to me, rather then me out of the hole as the ground was so soft...so how did I get out...? my 14 year old got in the car and reversed out... Embarassed Embarassed Laughing and then drove forward, upwards and onwards...)

And then onto (what we now call) "Horrid Hill" - it gets worse each time we are there...

A great day today...I also got to drive the FFRR TDV8 around the course for a couple of hours 8)
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

Thanks for the pics NJF, especially the D4 colours! Very Happy
I'll stick with the Strnoway I think, however I'm pretty convinced that someone has to tell LR that a Nara Bronze in a darker shade with a tint of gray would sell like crazy! Thumbs Up

PS Maybe it'd be a good idea to add a separate thread with the D4 colours?

And there's more...

I could only get back for a couple of hours at the end of today. And I didn't really do that much driving - it was Mrs JF Lux's turn who did a great job of following NJF around the course.

So a few photos out of the 250 (in two hours...) that one of my boys took this afternoon...

NJF with Mrs JF Lux as passenger

and the little drop he was showing her... Whistle

So I followed...

(I ended up being the center of attention for photos from a lot of people...actually, both NJF and me seemed to attract quite a lot of photographs throughout the weekend...we must start charging...)

This guy is always at the events - its a lovely Def90 fully prepared by Geoland (a Belgium outfit). It cost a fortune though...

To miss-quote - what goes down, must go up. I tried...it wasn't easy with the state of the ruts and sandy ground. Almost made it but gave up after 3 attempts. I could have done it but at considerable risk to the vehicle (I took a hefty thump on the first, gentle attempt as it is).

SO to get up this little problem area, you need a Def90 like this, with tyres like these and a total disregard to your mechanicals and your wallet...

Over to NJF for the final set of piccies... Thumbs Up

Some more photos from today's driving at Bridel:

The first set are of JF Lux making a steep descent, starting with a left-hand turn across a ridge that is very loose, with a pretty uncomfortable camber, which makes the car see-saw on crossed axles until it finally tips onto the descent. 8)

... and here's JF Lux trying to climb the same slope, with no success, but not for lack of trying or skill:

... and a couple of LR 90s that were able to do it (less weight, shorter wheel base). Note the twin snorkel on the white car:

A great day, with the site, lunch and drinks laid on by Land Rover Luxembourg. Thumbs Up

Edited to say that it was very dusty these past two days. Fine sunshine and clouds of dust to match. No doubt the RAI helped to reduce the amount of dust uptake but plenty would still have reached the filter. I spent a good deal of time driving with the front windows down and it took about two and a half hours tonight to clean the dust out of the interior.

I would have cleaned the exterior with the superb pressure spray at the quarry gate but for the fact that there was a queue of cars waiting to wash the dust off their wheels - and most of them never drove further than the car park (including a few well-equipped LRs). There was practically no dirt on them. Evil or Very Mad So that's why the D3 is sat outside with clean interior and utterly minging exterior.

Mine's the opposite... Laughing The outside still needs a thorough wash as the jet-wash was just cold water and no soap. But boy, is the interior dusty Shocked (Which Mrs JF Lux will attest to as I placed her brand new black leather bag on the car floor.... Embarassed It now has that "Land Rover" look... Embarassed )

I'm really impressed with your event. In all the years they always want to see money if you want to go offroad, and that in this pricerange. We had some dry sandwiches Sad Seemd like they were to go out of business the next day, but we compensated with a good go with the FFRR 5,Ol Mr. Green

Dis you feel offroad a difference between D3 and D4?

Hi, Mounty. LR Lux has always offered at least one good annual event. I think it's a good dealership, although the last year has been very hard and has caused many staff changes.

We were not allowed to drive the D3 off-road. You can see my on-road test-drive review here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic40084.html

After a few weeks reflection, I think the D4 is a great car. Thumbs Up
