Burning rubber smell from rear wheel.

Hi all,

I have noticed recently after a drive I get a hot burning rubber smell coming from NSR.

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks,
Jamie

Stuck parking brake or brake caliper comes first to mind...

I had a new epb and discs and pads fitted around 10k miles ago. What’s best to look at first?

Would that cause the burning rubber smell?

easiest way is to look at colour of the disc if it don't look like the one on the other side then its the caliper or hand brake sticking not sure if its a rubber smell but definitely a burning smell Thumbs Up

Perhaps take the disco on a run then check(carefully) to see if any wheels hotter than the others, this may indicate a sticking caliper / binding handbrake may give you a place to start Thumbs Up

if you burn your hand on the caliper, its probably the caliper

if you burn your hand on the center hub of wheel, its probably the hand brake.

You should service/lubricate the shoe pivot while disc is off
(remove shoes)

This may be a useless suggestion, but my OSR brake cable sheath wore through because the cable support had broken allowing the cable to rub against the wheel. My sense of smell isn't too good so didn't smell anything. My indy found the problem and he is going to strip a good cable off my old EPB and replace the worn one with it.
Just a thought. Thumbs Up

It went on a 100 mile trip yesterday, the wheel was not however the disc was.

Hard to comment on the colour as it was dark, it was just hot with a burning smell which I thought smelt like rubber.

sounds like you have a caliper issue if you are on a slight slope and in neutral will it roll or if you pull up to a junction does it feel like it is being slowed other than normal Thumbs Up
