Byway at Buckle Street - Cotswolds
Is anyone familiar with the byway on "buckle Street" near Saintbury in the Cotswolds. The Lane runs from a right hand turning off Buckle Street just before the village of Saintbury and runs to just before Weston-sub-egde.
It is marked as a byway but the northern end has a huge metal post padlocked to stop vehicle access.
It is restricted status??

It certainly is marked as a byway, and could be signed also.
If there is a metal post at one end, but there is no notice attached, it could be worth a quick phone call to the local Rights of way officer at the County Council. I would put money on it having a TRO (Traffic Regulation Order) served on it, which effectively shuts the lane. They sometimes are shut for repairs, but often just to keep the locals happy.
Phone the ROW dept, and introduce yourself as an interested party. Once you have broken the ice with them, you will know who to speak to. They can't fob you off, the freedom of information means they have to answer your question.

thats the one. The post is at the North end. Interestingly there isnt one at the south end though. Its a reasonable climb north to south and looked like loads of cotswold stone had been dumped on it to improve traction. As we approcahed it from the south end there was no sign of closure until we reached the end. Oops, I hope there werent tree huggers with spy cameras
I will try the local council rights of way officer as suggested and let you know

Just had a quick scan around the map, and it looks like the whole area is very sparse for green lanes There are plenty of RUPPS (dash dot dash lines) but they are not legal anymore.

You have some interesting looking ucr's (lines of red dots) around Stow in the Wold (west of).
Could be worth exploring sometime.

You have an OS Explorer map, yes you can, but should check first. There are loads of these around the Peaks.
The only time I would not proceed is if I found a sign at the end that said Bridleway or Footpath. That means it is dual status and now not legal to drive. No sign means fair game in my book.

Stow on the Wold and surrounding area
Evening chaps, the roads that Gareth has highlighted are mostly driveable in a van! They are farm tracks that in some areas even have the black stuff on them. Although driveable you will end up with scratches as they are quite badly overgrown in places. There used to be a really good one that was just about driveable in a Discovery running alongside the A40 from Northleach towards Cheltenham, but since Tony and his tree hugging brigade have killed all the RUPP's there is practically nowhere left to play in The Cotswolds. However if the hunt are out there is a sort of excuse to drive some of them as the old bill are too busy making sure that they are only chasing a smelly sock and tend to ignore the hunt followers.D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,
