Calibrate the Altimeter
Is it possible to calibrate the altimeter on in the Nav System? Or is it governed by barometric pressure?
Mine constantly reads about 30-40% higher that OS values for the same location so the error is constant.
e.g. My house is at 230 feet but the Alt says 370 - 390 and a known trig point of 460 feet reads as 630 feet..Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

In short - no! The altitude is based on GPS, not barometric pressure.

It sounds horrendous when you give the error % against feet on an arbitrary reference, but when you think about the actual vertical distance being calculated from the fast moving satellites (which can be no closer than approx 13,000 miles) the % error is pretty damn small (circa 0.000002%). The altitude reference would be better if you could see satellites from a more helpful direction/geometry, but there is a spinning lumpy oblate spheroid in the way which we call home.

Thanks Dudley Disco for the link and Robbie for the simple version of all that. It's all clear now. Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
