Bloody car is full of voodoo...!

I am seriously considering setting fire to my car....! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Bloody thing is really p***ing me off now.

Yesterday, driving along, and suddenly......

Interior lights come on
sat nav turns off
stereo turns off
dash goes completely blank
hazard lights start flashing, and cannot turn them off

then a message appears on the stereo, saying 'vehicle fault, systems shutting down'.

So pull into a bus stop, turn off engine (oops) and on dash, get loads of different messages.
Then, bloody thing will not start again.

So plug in iid bt, and multiple faults registered, mainly all can bus related. Clear them all, start engine and make way home, and on the way, all happens again, so drive the few miles, with people waving and flashing me, telling me my hazards are on.
Spoke to a mechanic mate, who said it sounds like the battery may be goosed, as all faults are can bus signal related. Check battery and it is knackered, so get a new one, and fit it.

Go out this morning, car starts ok, but after about 1/2 hour, does it again. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry
But this time, my iid bt tool will not connect to car, so decide to do a hard reset. Car starts, got home, but have walked away from it, because at the moment I hate the efffing thing...! Censored

New battery probably goosed too now. Big Cry
Sounds like yet another textbook case of a failed alternator taking the battery with it. Big Cry

Best advice, go back and disconnect the battery as the alternator may be dead shorting. Stick the battery on charge and if you're lucky, you'll save it. If not, it's time to dig deep into those Discovery running fees and get another. Big Cry Big Cry

Just been out and disconnected the battery, and the little window on it is still showing green. Thumbs Up

Just spoken to my mate, he is bringing home his voltmeter from work, and will have a look later, but he did say, that yesterday, when he put the battery tester on, it said the alternator test was fine.

The battery that I put on, has a 5 year warranty with it.

Right then guys, been out and put the voltmeter on.

Battery reading 12.78v, then started the engine, and went up to 14.03v, then switched on all the electrical stuff, ie lights, air on, heated screens etc. It went down to 12.70v, and did not pick back up.

Does this indicate a fubar'ed alternator....?

If it was only pushing out 12.7v, yeah, sounds goosed.

At least the battery seems to have survived. Thumbs Up

Thanks for your help and advice. Thumbs Up

Hopefully, the battery is ok. I am getting a denso alternator tomorrow, and fit it over next couple of days, if I can bring myself to like it again....! Rolling with laughter

Sorry guys, another little question.....!

After fitting a new battery, does anything need doing / resetting, to tell the car it has a new battery, like you have to on some cars?

Urgent help needed please.?

I am now at my wits end.....! Censored

So today I have replaced the alternator with a 'Denso' one, put it all back together, took it for a drive, for a good 30 minutes, and just about to start smiling again, and feeling smug, when guess what.....?

The f***ing thing decides to start shutting down again......! All the voodoo rubbish starts happening.

Soooooo, new battery, new alternator, but still shutting down with can bus related faults.

Can any one of you advice what to do or check now please?

Are you getting the expected voltages? Was the battery fully charged before you fitted the new Alt, if not you may still be suffering low voltage issues
