Sankey Wide track Wheel Spacers

Hi guys,

Firstly apologies if it's not acceptable to post this here. Technically not Disco related as such!

Has anyone had any joy fitting g spacers to a wide track sankey with these silly centre hub things that I'm not sure what the purpose of them is. If so what spacers did you use. My sankey is tall and I'm keen to make it more stable so I'm guessing putting the wheels further apart will help!

Hope that makes sense when you see the picture.

You can cut that off, then you can fit spacers or hub adapters and use D3/4 wheels Thumbs Up

I've read elsewhere that I can cut it off too so thanks for confirming. Do you know what it was put there for when designed? Out of interest.

Also, you mention converters. What are they?

Sankeys are Defender stud pattern, the adapter allows you to fit D3/4 wheels (different stud pattern) Thumbs Up

Means you don't need to carry a spare for the trailer

****Just a thought as may make a difference but I have a mk2 wide track i.e. Drum braked version.****

Ah I see, that's helpful to know. So now I need another two D3 wheels too 😂 Where is best place to get these adapters you speak of?

The center hubs were designed to take strops that allowed the trailer to be slung up underneath a helicopter. As Beanie says you can cut them off but leave enough to bolt back on as they act as caps for the hub nut etc. Thumbs Up Once trimmed the spacers will go over the top of them.

Every day is a school day. I've wondered what they were for for years 👍👍

I'm doing some work on it tomorrow so it'll be a case of off they come then.

So are spacers or adapters the better option. Surely both do the same job depending on how stud pattern is configured??

If you want to fit D3/D4 wheels then you will need adapters but if you are just fitting modern wider Defender wheels you will just need spacers (as the new tyres are likely to be alot wider and will rub on the chassis with out).

I got my D3 adapters for my Sankey from Rakeway, just give them a ring very helpful Thumbs Up

www.rakeway.co.uk

I also bought pair of 30mm spacers from eBlag when I first started converting mine and they worked a treat until i wanted to put D3 wheels on.

I'll speak to Rakeaway re adapters when I find an extra two D3 wheels for now though I think spacers will work.

Has anyone tried these? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=ht...1044401693

Also, slight aside. What is biggest size tyre I could get on the standard sankey steels?
