Cancelling WD, a word to the wise .....

...... if you’ve made a claim in that year you get no refund back.

I’ve just cancelled my 3 year WD policy, which had about 11 months to run, and will be getting a nice healthy refund back, £471. Basically pro-rata on a daily basis, less £50 admin fee, all of which I knew about and was happy with.

However, if I’d had any claim, however tiny, in this final policy year I’d have received nothing back. Nought, naught, zip, nah-dah, soddicus-allicus. So if you are thinking you’ll be selling up, it’s in for something or other and the service dude says “it just needs this widget changed, it’s ok, sir, WD covers it”, be aware of the implications. A £50 minor claim could easily cost you £500 if you then want to cancel a bit further down the line. Thumbs Up

Getting £471 from WD, £450 from VED refund and about £125 from the ins co, Chrimbo has come early. Laughing Laughing

No refund following a claim applies to nearly every insurance policy to be fair. Not just warranty insurance.

Some insurance companies cancel the policy after a claim has been paid depending on the amount claimed Shocked this makes it extremely difficult to insure with a different company.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Shouldn't do. Th epolicy has not been "cancelled" it has been fulfilled.

If you insure something against a total loss, for example, you insure your car against theft from 1st January for a year and it is stolen on the 1st May and you are paid out then the contract is at an end. The insured event has taken place.
