had a new OEM spec Pilkington screen fitted t'other day, non heated.... £180 plus the vat.
The Saturday it was due to go in the LR dealer dropped off a heated one so had to wait for the following weekend to get time off work which was just as well coz on the following Tuesday after the first aborted attempt, wheel nut flew over from the other side of the carriageway M4 and smacked a gurt big hole in the lower black edge of the screen, just above the skuttle panel trim.
If the screen had of been changed, would have had a new one two days later
The original factory fit lasted 6 years and over 400k+ miles, since then this is our 2nd screen, first replacement OEMLR Pilkington with LR badge, next one now Pilkington without LR badge.

There are companies doing films specifically for windscreens that help prevent chipping and pitting.

3M do a film for vehicle windows, it allows you to hit them with a hammer without them cracking or breaking. It's very expensive and aimed at the agriculture and construction market where windows are up to £5k
Not seen it on front windows though! Not sure if it would cope with windscreen wipers.

Well, got the call from Autoglass to say that my insurer has approved replacement
with pukka OEM glass and still only the usual £50 excess to pay. Gotta say that since
insuring with NFU I have been very impressed with not only their pricing but there level
of customer service LR themselves could learn a thing or two about customer
care from them! Disco 4 HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

just found a bloomin big crack in our windscreen First one since we've had the D3 (so 5yrs or so)
Looks like something has hit the lower black area of the screen between wipers and lower scuttle - thing the sun this weekend has possible caused the crack to enlarge due to heating it up ???
What should i be asking the insurance company regarding replacement - i.e. A pillar sides clips etc as we suffered from leaks in this area for a while after we got the car.
thanks

Definately, They are known to break when being removed. Autoglass Aberdeen had already ordered them along with the windscreen for mine without me asking. Wouldn't do any harm to check though. Disco 4 HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black
