Car exactly 1 month old & Windscreen Smashed Aghhhhhh!!!
My car is exactly 1 month old today and on the way to work this morning... Whack.. Stone from a bus going in opposite direction right in fornt of my face and smashed windscreen!! Due to location & size of damaged area screen must be replaced. Unbelievable...... My Previous car, MY10 RR Sport, suffered 3 replacement windscreens in a 12 month period for the same issue! What is it with these LR screens? Are they particulalry prone to being totalled by a stone strike? I have never had a car with such a poor record of replacement windscreens. Prior to my MY10 RRS I had never needed a screen replaced at all... what is going on? Is this a common issue?
I have also been told by my insurer (via Autoglass) that if I insist on an LR OEM Screen I will have to pay the cost difference as well as the excess.... That seems a bit of a rum deal Disco 4 HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Don't worry about the Autoglass screen, as long as it's Pilkingtons. Exactly the same (down to the numbers on the screen), just no LR badge. Well it is on the D3.

The poor condition of UK roads does not help, but the more vertical a windscreen is the more likely it is to be damaged. The size of our windscreens does not help either.
That said my D3 windscreen was still original after 8 years, albeit with a few repairs.
Hope you get a Pilkington screen as I know some insurance companies are looking to cut corners with some rather rubbish glass with barbed wire for heating elements. Some have a cheek to ask for more money for a like-for-like screen!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Yep, I was the same with my 2007 RR Sport .... No issues what so ever. As soon as I got the 2010 Sport, and now my 2013
Disco it seems to be an issue! It's interesting because I drive roughly the same mileage every year and basically 90% of my travel is on the same roads all the time so really the only variable is the actual screens... Does make you wonder about their
quality?
I just found this product:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bulletproof-windsc...-2-catcorr Anyone used it or know of
an alternative that works?Disco 4 HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

A liquid coating that can protect against rocks!
That's got to be snake oil surely?
I went through three new screens in the first three months of D4 ownership... but nothing since (touch wood). It's a big upright screen and I presumed I was just unlucky.
Problem I had with Autoglass is they wouldn't guarantee a Pilkington screen... even lied to me the first time. I only go with OEM now.

I had the same problem with a pair of Land Rover binoculars a few years ....the glass they used for the optics was appalling.....when I looked directly into the sun I nearly burned my eyes out. I'd suggest you get a LR one and ensure they replace the A pillar trim clips to avoid any leaks - had mine done at Autoglass a year ago
TBH - LR screens no worse than others - D3 was sold with original screen after 5 years and 97K, x1 in D4.
(probably asking for it now)

Slightly off topic but I have noticed on ours (1 month old too) that I notice the heating element more. The lit motorway signs are all out of focus until I am about 50 meters from them. SWMBO says its my eyes but I don't think so
I do like the new parking sensor graphic tho which is much better being colour coded as to distance then just bleeps D4 HSE - Aintree Green

Glosboy - I agree totally about the parking sensor graphic, Ali has it in the MY13 FL2 as well. Much better as you say. The new info screen between the clocks on the FL2 is quite funky too. Got some colour to it. What are the odds we'll see something similar on the new Disco? My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription
