Something like a mini orbital would be fine. The spring will help when it gets snagged in low branches etc.

Cheers.
I have been browsing and had seen these.
But my browsing has created another question : do I really need a SWR meter? On the basis the antenna will be taken down and erected again, should I be using/checking with a meter each time?
The shopping list is increasing..... should have done this a month ago and put them on my Christmas listMY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

"Should" only need to set it up once as you would be replacing it like for like each time.
however it doesn't hurt to check it now and then as they can 'drift' from vibration and the odd twang
also long term issues with incorrect SWR can damage your transmitter etc...If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking .. O

Antenna, cables, SWR meter and Uncle Ray's roof mount purchased and mounted it all this morning.
As per the previous comments and pictures, I was aiming to mount it on the rear of the roof rail. However, I couldn't fit the cable between the boot and the bodywork with boot open, shut or in between (dam the good shut lines ) so couldn't feed it into the boot and then internally through the car. It won't be mounted permanently, so not looking to make any holes to feed the cable through. So either others shut lines are worse than mine, or maybe my cable is a larger diameter.
Mounted it above the passenger door in the end, fed the cable through the top of the door. SWR readings all good. Not yet actually used it, no one around to talk to from my house.MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

You’ll also find it much easier at the front to get a low SWR reading, I struggled at the back on my HSE with the sunroof and getting a good ground plane. I still intend to give it another go at some point, but same as you I only got when needed for off-road days etc.RLD CB Bracket

When positioned above the passenger door, I was getting just under 1.5 on Ch20 - which I believe is acceptable (says CB novice)MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

I managed to get near on 1.1 at the rear after some trimming of the antenna. 1.5 is fine.
