Cheers for that, I will pm uncle Ray.......So its a Midland 78 everybody seem to swing towards.....Guess its the size.....where did you fit the unit?

ok guys, took all your advice onboard and went to 4x4cb.com, as recommended by MrH (many thanks), and I must admit they are very helpful. Told him what I wanted, where it was going, and he recommended the system for me.
I have gone for Midland Multi 78, with channel operation on the mic. He is fitting a cigarette power lead and the connector S029 as recommended by Discocuzzy. All I need to complete to the bracket from uncle Ray, which he is dealing with, and then off I go fitting on Tuesday.
Thanks for everybodys advice

Just need now the Knowledge (in idiot terms) on how to work a SWR meter when all system is installed!!!!!!!!, what do I need to do?

1. Put CB on channel 1
2. Put switch on SWR meter in FWD position
3. Key mic and adjust so needle is on far right of scale then de-key mic
4. Put switch on SWR meter in REF position
5. Key mic and take reading then de-key mic
6. Put CB on channel 40
7. Repeat steps 2-5
If the reading is higher on channel 40 than 1 you need to shorten the antenna (lengthen if 1 is higher), take a bit off at a time and retest on both channels. Ideally you want a 1:1 SWR, not always achievable though, get it to at least 1:1.5 or below if possible. Whilst tuning if it starts to go up on the channel that had the lower reading stop, you're not going to get a better reading with the set-up as it is. Length of coax also affects SWR so don't go changing that after you've adjusted the antenna The End

One more thing... don't test the SWR when parked up next to a building, can cause false readings, go and park in the open somewhere The End

ok, prior to my unit turning up I have decided to fit mine into the cubby box/arm rest (cheers Ian!!!!!), Velcro will hold it there and when not in use its out of site. Have ordered a new 3.5inch external speaker too but unsure where thats going yet, possibly in an air vent hidden.
Still awaiting to hear about roof mount, so not sure yet on that, but will copy Richards route through the rear lights.

Today I fitted the Midland into the GLOVE BOX, fits just about right. I removed alot of the trim on the centre consul, thanks to Wigsy for the instructions on how. (not an easy job). The ariel I ran through the rear n/s light just like XTC does, and thanks to Richard for the bracket supplied. Just as Richard suggests the bracket is for amateur radio and not really for CB whips!!!!!!!!. Uncle Ray has one on the way to me so that should remidy this and will swap over when it arrives.
All I have to do now is get it rigged to a SWR meter, I bought one of those too, but really unsure what it does and how to to it. When I first put the meter on and briefly pressed the transmit button it went off the scale, so I adjusted it back to SET position.
But aint sure and dont want to break it. Any suggestions?
Also, a stickler for neatness, I wanted all the cables hiden, hence the consul out, the only wire that can be see is the one to POWER it up, and that one goes to the rear power point behind the arm rest.

Looking at your picture, do you need the spacers in? Only sent those in case the mount did not fit the depth of the track... If you could remove them it would stiffen it all right up. Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!

Cheers Richard, I think I need at least one spacer cos the nut below bracket touches the roof rail. Not tried driving it yet, not driven since SE meet cos of broken foot, but am sure it will stay put as its on really tight
My SWR meter will is in my Gallary shortly, just got to go to the HSE and fetch it. Hope somebody understands it. My question is that once I diconnect the SWR meter how does the unit remember the settings, or do I leave the SWR on all the time (stupid question I know), but never have had to do this on my trucks.
