Ok peeps. My requirements are something for my to use Greenlaning / offroading. Something I can use in convoy with other D3's..... what are my options, I dont want screw holes in dash, nor a handheld unit. Can it be fitted to the rear cubby box and hand mike run through....where do I run areial, wots the best ariel, how do I fix.

Midland Multi 78 seems a small compact unit & fits in between the passenger seat and the centre console. Has up/down on the mike so no need to use the head unit. Could easily be tucked in the cglove box, although not sure what route the mike would need to take.

The aeriel that BobbyCrispBox (& TFC & Others) have is pretty awesome & out performed most of the others when we were in the Alps on the Croisier run. In fact I think we were the only ones who could do most of the front/back convoy communication.

Will be getting mine from Ken at the end of the month Thumbs Up

Hi JCB,
I am by no means a comms man but i would say that CB & PMR are to realsitic options.
If you do not want hand help then CB is favourite.
I have a very slim Midland unit that sits between the cubby box & the passengers seat, no fixings necessary. Powered from the ciggi socket.
The ariel is on the bull bars but you could run a mag mount or mount on to the roof rail if fitted.
XTC would be the man to talk to about twigs.

Here's some pictures of how I installed the Aerial & CB got mine from this chap who was very patient and helpful.

The Auto Squelch function on the Harry II works great, glad I took Discowex's advise on that Thumbs Up

Nothing permanent inside so no screws and easily removed. Additionally I got a set of Motorola Talkabout T5622 PMRs of eBAY after speak to JMC - these cost me around £25-30 at the time.
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Cheers for that, I will speak to a few at the next SE meet, just to gauge which direction to go into, and to test some they have. Many thanks Thumbs Up

Not sure if all rigs come complete with a power socket but I would ask who ever you buy from to put one on the end of the power lead. I would go for a small rig such as the ones in the photos. Another reliable CB shop is Knights Electronics who have a good web site with pics of the radio's. I use a K40 ariel which works well and is well made. It comes down to money in the end, how much you use it against how much you what to spend. I would invest in an external speaker which plugs into the back of the radio, a swr meter and patch lead.

Hi JCB

PMRs (decent ones) are great for close up stuff, about a mile & no mounting problems.
CB's are better for the longer range stuff, all makes are pretty good I've got a Midland (think its a 78 ) it does all Uk & european channels and has channel change on the mike also very compact.
You don't need to pay a fortune my outfit with aerial etc was only £65 at Billing. (Peterbough is coming up)
They don't come with a plug on them but they are Censored easy to fit.
I've dropped you a PM with my mobile number I wanted to check on Brighton trip etc.

Ian Thumbs Up

JCB,

Ill show you my install at the next meet if you like, i have a midland 78 Thumbs Up

PM Uncle Ray about a mount and get yourself a coax lead mate up with a standard connector on one end and an S029 connector athe the aerial end (slightly smaller than coax connector allowing a flusher fit to the roof)

Rays mount is then mounted to the roof rails with the cable running through the door seal, under the carpets and connected to the reciever Thumbs Up

Can be easily disconnected when not in use Thumbs Up

Have a look in his gallery...there may be some pics, if not ill bring mine to the next meet Thumbs Up
