I had it in my BM but only did it once to see how it worked. With full iPhone control using a CD is a bit 1980s. They make great coffee cup coasters.
So, does that mean that every home user with iTunes (For example) who rips their music collection onto the PC and then to their iPod (for example) is liable to copyright payments for the additional "copy"?Mark.

Yes, indeed it can. Mine will rip 10 CDs and is loaded with the Gracenote database so it recognises the tracks, artist etc.D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

The whole thing is such a grey area.
If you buy a dvd, cd etc, you buy a license for it and if you so wish can make a personal copy for your own use only which is what many do to protect the original and keep it stored. As long as you are not reproducing it to share or sell you are technically doing nothing wrong.
This latest thing though assumes people are storing CDs that they do not own or as people potentially could suddenly its a big deal? I understand the point but considering how easy it is to copy a CD these days, if they prevent storage in cars all that will happen is people will burn copies to use and have a bunch of copied CDs so really it will change very little.
The music industry took a long time to move forward with online track purchases which led to such a huge market for pirate mp3 download sites. If people could get reasonably priced high quality tracks much sooner the likes of napster and all those who followed would probably not have gained the recognition they did or atleast not to the extent they did.
Time for the industry to move forward again and stop being so silly.

No, A PC is not marketed as a music recording device and it's primary function isn't playing music where the headunits fitted to these vehicles are.
True but to then have it copied onto your iPod etc surely within the definition of a music storage and playing device.Mark.

You're allowed to copy your own music, you're not allowed to share it with others. The paranoid members of the "music industry" (aka Big Content) are claiming that the hardware in these cars makes ripping other people's CDs easier and thus everyone are pirates and thus the automotive industry must be punished.
It's just a new target after loads of their court cases in the US for other spurious claims have been thrown out.
Well thats a load of horse - why is borrowing someone elses CD easier at home or in a car.
Or is it that you go to friends borrow CD collection for an hour burn to your car HD and then give them back - as a apposed to driving to friends with laptop, borrow CD collection for an hour and burn to laptop HD?
This is just another case of the music industry not taking in the new technology and making it work for them and waking up when its too late.Mark.
