Changing air suspension height while hitched..

Hi
Just wondering about suspension settings whilst having the caravan hitched.

I generally drop it to access height when parking up, but wondering if doing so with the caravan hitched will put undue stress on the compressor when raising back to driving height?

Any opinions?

Cheers
Andy

Your caravan noseweight will probably be about 100kg ?
This equates to about 200kg in the boot of the car, so I can't see why this should give the compressor a problem on a Disco, but I wait to be corrected.

I've raised and lowered mine with the caravan attached and over 100 'bouteilles de vin' + luggage in the back of the car and have never had a problem Whistle

I don't use it unless I have to though - don't want to strain it unnecessarily Rolling with laughter

No issues - in fact, if you look at LR's promotional material, you will see that they demonstrate the ability to raise / lower the hitch when hooking up. Inevitably, the process will include lifting the rear with the weight of the hitch added.

For info - my noseweight is approx 115kg and it all works perfectly fine

Thumbs Up

Thanks for the responses. Although the car is still quite new to me I had gathered that LR demo the ability to drop the car to aid hitching.

However, I guess my concern was putting undue stress on the compressor, which reading around the forum seems to cause more than its share of problems over time.

So I guess in summary its fine to do, but personally I'll try and limit how often to avoid the additional stress.

Cheers
Andy

one to watch for is stressing the 'vans hitch, if you leave the car hooked up overnight with the 'vans legs down, and the D3 settles after a while (which we do when heading for a quick start for the ferry). You've the weight of the D3 pulling down on the hitch, with the 'vans front legs taking the weight.

It will not be no strain on compressor cause it raises from the pressure out of the tank, stain on compressor is from continual running of compressor

i use the raise and lower when hitching all the time on a large twin axle Eldiss and its saved me untold faffing around especially on uneven ground

you can even configure the LR button on the key fob to allow you to remotely adjust the vehicle height from the key fob itself ( as long as the hazards are switched on ) it always impresses a few X5 on lookers this trick . Wink

This is well within the capacity of the system / compressor and regardless of how you use them they all seem to only last about 6 years typically and the change is no big job so dont think twice about it Thumbs Up

Remote adjust using keyfob...love the sound of that.

Is there some instructions somewhere on how to configure?

andy from memory

turn the ignition off remove the key within 1? minute press the LR button ,keep depressed and at the same time hold the suspension adjust lever to the lower position till you get a bong ,that should do it .

put the hazards on get out shut all doors stand by the fence till your nearest X 5 owner comes by then hold down the LR button and the close botton at the same time to raise ( takes a couple of seconds to activate ) hold LR button and unlock to lower if you release either button during the process it stops Thumbs Up

i think ive remembered it correctly
