Charging System Fault

Hi

Recently I’ve been getting “Charging System Fault “ pinging up on the dash now and again. When it does ping up it clears itself in less than a minute and it’s all appears to be ok.
I had to change the battery in the summer but I have not yet got the BMS reset after fitting the battery.

The car does not get used much and I’ll either take it out for a run or put it on charge over night.

I have checked the battery tonight with a multi meter and it was 12.6v with the engine off and when started the voltage slowly increased over a few minutes to 14.7v before settling about 14v. Does this sound to be about right?

Is there anyone near Falkirk who could reset the BMS for me ?

Thanks
Graeme

You shouldn’t need to reset the BMS now, it will have found its own level of charge. It is charging about right, it may charge higher when the weather gets colder, check all terminals are clean and tight, try a temporary earth (jump lead) from the battery to the engine to see if that stops the fault.
If you are not using a smart charger disconnect the battery when you charge it.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Don't know if it helps, but I changed my start/stop battery some time back and subsequently found out I should have done a BMS reset. A few months later I took it into an independent garage for some work and mentioned it. They advised that a BMS reset now would not be required for the same reason stated by M3DPO.
You can search on here for earthing issues as suggested to see what symptoms others have been getting. I have seen mention of it several times.
Good luck with sorting it
Cheers
 Gary

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I’ll check all the earth cables after Christmas, hopefully it will just be a loose or corroded connection.

Thanks again Thumbs Up
