Just the thought of it having a CAT-D claim on it - looks ok on the photo's mind, I'd have thought it'd push the price down a bit. I'm no expert on it thought - always happy to be proved wrong Very Happy

D2's still hold thier price for good examples, and to be fair this one looks very clean and the mileage isnt that high for the year.

They are easily good for 200k+ if looked after properly Whistle

There's another one on there that is not cat-d for similar money.

Had a CAT-D before and wouldn't do it again.

Admittedly, it was a lots cheaper to buy and meant I could afford a D3 at that time.

I took a chance as there's a wide range of repairs which fall into this category. Trouble was, I couldn't tell exactly what had been repaired. Spoke to a few body repairs shops and they all had different theories.

It was road worthy and drove well, but I eventually lost confidence in it when it started to leak water. It just played on my mind.

In my professional opinion CAT C or D cars should be treated with kid gloves... I have owned quite a few CAT'd cars, some good, some not...

I buy & sell quite a few D2's and get offered some horrific rubbish with repairs i would not drive to the end of my drive in! Some CAT'd some not. but they are at that age now where a lot don't want to claim on their no claims as the car has not too much value left...

I think the D2 on fleabay, if a good car? Is a cheap car... I sold a 99 V with 135K 6 months ago for £4K as they are valued in my area...

A few years ago CAT cars were pretty cheap to buy from salvage yards, and could be repaired using a chassis jig and Oem parts,if you were trying to do it properly.....I had a Q7 lined up that was stolen/recovered a couple of years ago.It was lightly damaged, having been put into a ditch.
The prices have gone through the roof in the last couple of years due to more and more cowboys realising the returns that were possible.....unless you know the person who was doing the repair,as I did, then tread very carefully
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Locking rear E-diff
RLD spare wheel protector & sump guard
Extended roof rails
Series 111 mudflaps
Black side tubes,grill and vents
Timed climate remote
Hids4u interior lights

D4 Firenze my2012 HSE
D3 Java 2005 SE manual (sold, sadly, thanks for the memories)
1966 '88 Series 2a....still starts in the morning better than I do...

Owned a few 'cat D' cars over the years, never had an issue with any of them, cost about 75-80% of non repaired equivalents and never had an issue selling them on either.

Helps if seller has 'before' and 'after' pics and many will at least have an "oh-Censored-I-crashed-my-car" one usually. On cars I've had I'd say they were probably better condition generally as well as new bumpers, wings, lights, grilles usual level but remember, even on decent cars, it might only have had a new bumper, wing, headlamp, etc.

Would always consider one if seller open about the history, no more risk than any other motor IMO if same, fairly basic, checks done when viewing anything Thumbs Up

Few years back got a 2.1td Xantia Cat C for my dad. The rear had been hit and bent the boot floor and that was it as the bumpers tend to pop back out.

Took bumper off and took it to a bodyshop friend in brum. Clamped down some chains and grips onto the rear lip and gently pulled it back out. Thing was great after that and didn't leak or give any problems although a full proper job would have been a new boot floor my dad intended to run it into the ground but eventually got a better 2.1 that i found him with lower miles and full history so flogged it on for 3 times what i paid and was honest about the Cat C and history and showed them the damage, and the receipts for the servicing he had done on it himself Smile

Horses for course but i wouldn't buy it without seeing it and spending a good few hours running over as many of the seams as possible and measuring panel gaps(unless its a 90/100...)

Also if its front wing and bumper could the drive train not have taken a hit as well?!?
FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner Smile
Test piloted a new D4 XS SDV6.. Gone and being forgotten i hope!!
