Checking if D3 2007 has reinforced oil pump |
|
I have just bought an 07 plate and the service bills do not indicate if pump has been changed to later type.
Currently 169k miles belts changed at 114k but no mention of pump.
How much work, time and how easy to remove timing cover?

Did the D3 oil pump ever get upgraded by LR? |
|
Hi all, I'm new to the D3 world, after reading about it's very common problems, crank, oil pump etc can anyone tell me if LR ever upgraded it, as I now have a 09 2.7TDV6 @ 140k new gearbox, all bushes, all new suspension and compressor, Belts all done by previous owners but I'm not sure if the pump was the failing original one or if LR ever upgraded it as my vehicle is very near the end of the model?
Thanks, and any answers appreciated!

2009 LR started fitting an oil pump with stronger casing but do not assume that yours has it fitted its always best to have a look

Was it ever subject to recall?
Mine is a 2008.5 with a full Land Rover service history including belts
Wondering if its likely to hae been done

LR would only carry out a recall if the admited to a fault which they dont.
Yours would have left the factory with the weak oil pump and would not have been changed by LR as its not specified in the service schedule.
It may have been replaced if specified by the owner or a good independant specalist, but i would assume it hasnt unless its been physically checked or replaced.

And quick! not next year or even within a few weeks... just ASAP..... if they go it is without warning and regardless of type of use... heavy footed or not...
if it breaks... end of engine..... DOT Best regards

I agree it's just not worth the risk, so saying that is anyone on the forum in the Suffolk area and want to strip it down to check, for cash?

Hi, yeah I understand it may not be too difficult but I've got a spinal cord injury which makes many of these jobs difficult for me, I used to be in a Tank regiment stripping engines down etc but struggle now with these injuries. Cheers.

Hi, Newbie. I am afraid. I have a 140k '06, and I need to have a look at the pump. I saw somewhere that the earlier D3 oil pumps were OK, but the 07 onwards pump were the problematic snapping ones? I will check with the garage that did the belts 20k ago. Help appreciated!?

Hi newbie
MHO, do not trust the years... just trust e reinforced pump... there is no proof that early pumps never fail..
More important, all pumps wear, so the already low standard oil pressure becomes less and less.
Especially after 100k mls it is smart to change is anyway, reinforced or not...
Invest a few hunderd quid now to avoid any future very expensive (+£4500) risk.. (if not already done by the former lover of your motor) and fit new rollers also, if you have no proof they were done too.. it could be not the first time, they only did a belt.. Best regards
