Land Rover logo is almost for certain the original glass.

Over here, it is rare to see the Land Rover logo on glass other than when the screen is the original from the factory.

The dealers will however install Land Rover logo glass as long as either the factory or the owner is paying. For vehicles on their used LR lot, either Guardian or some off shore far east glass goes in.

For those that want the OEM Pilkington Optikool glass, it is available as Pilkington labelled rather than LR labelled thru local independent glass shops.

You may as well get yourself a complete set of torx screwdrivers or at least the bit ends. There are about six different sizes and you will eventually need them all.

Still wondering about the brand name of the windscreen glass.

bbyer,

I agree about the 'Sod's' law of averages. This is a screen trying to clear recently on a RHD car for the UK market. Not much use really.

The independent specialist where I bought it from a few weeks ago called their insurance chappy out. New Pilkington Optikool fitted.

ah yes, Murphys Law as well

There is an interesting commentary on Sod's Law verses Murphy's per the link below. I appreciated the name as I had forgotten about it.

Yes, your windscreen is certainly worse than mine ever was.

The reality is living in a cold climate area, I use the windshield heat very little as I park inside; the air is dry so we do not often get condensation/front on our glass but I guess if I parked outside, the heat would be used more often. When it snows, the temperature is too cold for the snow to melt and then freeze on the windscreen - it tends to just fly off so to speak.

We do get rain either overnight or in the day followed by freezing temperatures. That is when the windscreen electric heat is really useful.

From what I recall (I no longer own the D3), there are only two connectors. If one side has failed then the small, internal wire in the glass linking the two sections of the heating element will have failed. So, a new screen would be needed.

I have a Defender now, with a heated screen, and thankfully there screens are a doddle to fit and not expensive either. National Windscreens (UK) even give nice long warranties on them.

How warm should heated windscreen be? Mine seems barely warm at all despite fuses and relay all tested ok and audible change in load on the engine when I switch the heater on.

I noticed last night that it didn't seem to do anything but seemed to start after I wiggled the relay. Now has a known good, nearly new relay in its place but doesn't really seem very warm even after turning it on several times (it seems to "time out" after a couple of minutes) with car sat on drive and engine running. It's -1°c outside at the moment and I'd be surprised if the windscreen got above 10°c (approx 29f and 50f respectively)

Alternator is around a month old and runs about 14.6v at idle so I doubt that's an issue

It shouldn’t get warm, but you should notice vertical line clearing after a few minutes with mist or ice

Remove the 2 fuses

With the engine off, measure the resistance (set to 200R) between battery ground and the 4 terminals.

One fuse terminal out of the 2 should have a low reading, if the screens connected and good

Remove the clear tops off the fuses and refit

It certainly used to do that much at least, I don't think I ever bothered to feel how warm it was getting though.

Feel a little bit crazy but I'm hoping for frost when I get back to it after work later to prove whether or not it works now

Thanks for the info too, may well come in handy over the weekend if it's not working. Clear tops though? I've only found f15 and f18 but they're the small blade type, have I missed some?

Well, no frost last night so I can't confirm much with that

Had a prod around just now and I'd say it's all ok..... I just had higher expectations

As Pete k said, fuses 15 and 18 under the bonnet have very low resistance one side and open circuit the other (with everything switched off). They get battery voltage (between there and earth) on the open circuit side once the switch is turned on, with engine running (won't turn on without engine running). At that point I had 14.2v between the fuse and negative on battery.

I then took the trims off inside the car and measured the voltage there, both sides had 13.1v which I think is ok given losses in wiring etc

The windscreen feels cool/cold but the door glass is noticeably colder so, I guess it works

As a side note, it seems the previous owner's wife was a bit of a makeup monster and liked hugging the A pillar Rolling Eyes if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation, it turns out an old toothbrush and washing up liquid make light work of getting makeup off of the felt kinda stuff on the trim Laughing

I have only had my disco for 6 months, heated screen is not working. I had a new screen fitted to as it got damaged by a large stone, I have checked the 2 3off 0amp fuses and they are fine.

Heated rear screen works fine.
buttons and lights on the dash work
how long should the screen take to get warm?
does it only work below certain temperatures?
how warm does the screen get to the touch?
what part number is the relay please so I can source a replacement
