sorry if this is a silly question, but may influence choice, the remaps that need plugging into PC's, do they work on MAC too or only PC?

thanks

HI
It will work on a MAC if you run VMware software for a virtual Windows client.

Would seem to be £400 if bought at one of the LR shows.

check out the details here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic21467.html Thumbs Up

That price is for a remap only NOT the BAS remap interface.

The BAS remap interface is still only £499 all inc with UK delivery including the remap to forum members.

Insurance update, spoke to admiral insurance.

They allow "chipping" to increase the power of an engine. The absolutely dont allow "remapping".... they read me the definitions of both, sounded very similar....

So, what is the difference between "Chipping" and "remapping" ?

I am going to write to them with details of the BAS remap, and get a written reply as to whether they cover it or not.... joy !

A bit miffed as a new insurance policy is >£300 more expensive than admiral, so paying £300 plus the cost of the remap makes it a no no, so the wife says !

Chipping is where a original OTP (One Time Programed) chip is removed and replaced with a performance version.
It is replaced because there is no way of reprograming a OTP chip.

This is older non flash cars ONLY.

Remapping is where the original "Chip" is reprogramed with the performance software so in essence the exact same as a chipping job execpt the ecu does not need opening and solder work done.

I think the insurance company may need some updates with there rules since they seem confised about what chipping and remapping is.

It would be very hard to "chip" the siemens TDV6 ecu becaue its infact a processer that has internal memory and its a BGA surface mount type, which is almost impossibile to remove and replace without specialist equipment.

Tell then you cant chip a TDV6 its not possibile.

aright guys

just a quicky, would i have to take more care than normal after a remap - ie more frequent filter/service routines?

i've heard that the reason remapping/chipping is uber popular in the UK is because of the relatively high fuel quality that we enjoy when compared to worldwide averages - which is partially what car manufacturers base their engine specifications on. doe sthis mean that for prolongued overseas tours an upgrade wouldn't possibly be the way forward or is this just urban myth?

in the same vein as above i've also heard from owners of 'chipped' vehicles that they were advised to buy fuel only from filling stations that were relatively new to ensure that no built up of Censored or contaminants from the storage tanks were carried over to the vehicle. again urban myth?

Pete,

What happens with BAS interface when you change your D3 ?

If you change for a different make/model can you sell you device and can they get a remap from you ?

or

If you get another D3 can you get another remap from you ?

HI

If you change your D3 for another D3 then as long as you return the first car to standard first i will make new tuning for the second new car for free.

The second question i cant answer untill you give me a make and model, but in most cases if my tool supports that car then yes i can make tuning for it, there may be a slight admin/labour charge for a different make and model of car.

Or you can sell it with the D3

Sounds a very good investment to me - thanks Pete.

Ever considered a 'group buy' or is £499 as low as it gets?

Update

With Pete's help I wrote a letter to Admiral insurance, and after much procrastination they eventually sent the letter to the underwriting team, and they came back with a YES !!!! A moral victory......

The cynic in me says that I want to wait till I have the written reply from them !

The painful thing was a £190 uplift in premium....ouch ! But even with that uplift, premium is still £100 cheaper than the quote from Land Rover Insurance.

So, all thats left is to convince SWMBO that the BAS remap is worth the hassle !!!

Response from Admiral

Had email on friday from Admiral.

Dear Mr Jose

I would like to confirm that our underwriting department have reviewed the
details provided to us about the engine modification you are making to your
vehicle. They have agreed to cover this modification for you subject to
the generated charge being paid and the standard parts clause. Please be aware
that any changes to the details provided could alter this decision.

If anyone needs any info drop me a line !
