There are some words of truth in what he says, though not all of what he says!

So why on Top Gear does he rate it as "Sub Zero" on the coolness stakes? Bit of a lack of features for the Times I suppose.

Confused Land Rover are also Advertising that the Defender is 'Top Gears Greatest Car Of All Time'

ODD!!!

mind you somethings don't have to be good to be great

as the farmers say "It Leaks in water, it leaks oil, it breaks down, its cramped, the heater doesn't work"

"How much for another?"

Why review the old model and not the new one?

CLARKSON

Jeremy Clarkson says so much with his tongue in his cheek, that it is getting impossible to work out just which statement is which? He loves to be sensational in his writing and broadcasting, but unfortunately he is losing his creditability.

I think he is comparing the old and new defender...and in reality not finding much difference. ....I hate to say it but I sort of agree. It's nearly 2007 and the Defender has changed very little in many, many years. Yes it's charming, has a sense of british nostalgia and is extremely strong off-road, ....but a fresh, bold new model can't come soon enough IMHO.

I think you're right Dick.

I heard the new new Defender (not the 2007 one) will be based on the T5 (D3/RRS) platform - shoe horning a Defender-ish body onto the T5 platform would probably work well! 8)

Haha, this is typical Clarkson I think. He's readily admitted on Top Gear, while pointing at the Lara Croft Defender - "I love these, they're brilliant."

He has valid points in what he says, and I think he's had a couple of Defenders. This does seem like typical Clarkson, saying things because he can.

I watched the new Clarkson dvd last night, he does a disco3 with a FFRRSC against a Hummer H2 and an Escalade, but over a less tough terrain. Bet you can't guess which wins Wink Shoots the s*%t out of a Prius too Very Happy

The thing is the Defender really does belong on the farm or battlefield, it is what it does best.

His article is about how impracticle, compared with modern cars, it is on the road.

I have borrowed a friend's 110 Station Wagon a few times and although fun, I certainly would not want to drive it very far on the motorway. Many people do, however, and so does my friend, I suppose you get used to it.

Cannot LR do with it as they have done with the London Taxi. Kept the basic look but modernised it inside.

Stick some decent wheels and tyres under one, up-grade the breaks and the TD5 and it makes one hell of a difference.
