Deejay - for polish residue, gently rub with a pencil rubber and then rub on Autoglym Fast Glass (spray available from Halfords or online auction site) using a cloth and that should remove it for good. AGFG is also a brilliant glass cleaner as it happens and is also fine for cleaning plastics so it's a really versatile product.
I agree with other replies that a clay bar is a good shout for removing stubborn marks - just make sure you lubricate the clay bar well since if it dries up while you drag it across the paint it can cause marring. If you buy a decent car shampoo (Meguairs Shampoo Plus is my current one - nice and slick) just use your wash solution as your lube.
I recommend the Eurow drying towels and agree with Steve R that patting dry is best for avoiding swirl marks. I use sheepskin wash mitts from sheepskinshop.co.uk - £14 for two.
One last tip - I find using two buckets makes a big difference - by that I mean one with shampoo solution and one with clear water to rinse any dirt out your wash mitt after each wipe with the shampoo.

A Claybar with some water as its medium is the best thing or some light lube for it. just be gentle and take your time and they will come off with one. I give my panels a going over on the L322 every few months and a wax afterwards. You can feel how smooth the surface is afterwards and it makes such a difference for the next few washes as it smooths the surfaces a little more as well.

I tend not to use 2 bucket anymore for anything but the inside but instead rinse the wool wash mitt under a running hose instead as it helps agitate the dirt out and you can see the water running clearer as you wring it out more and more to clean the bits out FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner

Good point what about the wet dog.
You know, i've been out shooting all day and i'm going to wait until i'm in my cage in the lovely new car to shake and shake and shake. I have to put towels over the cage but she is starting to smell (the car not the bitch). Hope the wife doesn't see this.
I always wipe down and have a high side boot buddy, but what is the best thing to spray with? can you get a "new car" smell?

We try to keep ours clean and we should use a towel over the top of the cage as the gits shake and get the roof all splattered. Just cleaned that at the weekend, carpet cleaner does it.
We have up to 3 in there so gets a bit smelly towards the end of the season especially in this weather.
I am hoping to P/Ex it for a newer one so will leave the Odour Bomb bit until the last minute
I bought an Odour Bomb - New Car smell for £8 off Amazon at the time of getting the other stuff.
Will let you know if it works. D4 HSE - Aintree Green

Get the polish off th black plastic fast as it reacts with the plastic and stays. The D3 had to have shocking repair rectified and they didn't mask when polishing and had managed to polish the black door handles. They had to be replaced as they wouldn't come good.

Well seeing as how its "plug for the valeters/detailers" time, I should mention for all those based in the west of Scotland that Robert at Incredible Detail has kept my Buckingham Blue MY12 D4 XS looking pristine (well until my wife drives it to the stables that is) in its first year of life.
He machine polished out a few swirls and light scratches just before Christams, re-applied the Gtechniq stuff on the paint, windows and wheels and deep cleaned the leather seats. That should do it for another year - if I can wash it carefully enough to avoid re-applying the swirls for that long !!

Free wash/wax with service.....so that equates to about 4 washes a year at least....whether it needs it or not....
Saving earths water ......
Draining it of its diesel.. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Auto Finesse "Tough Coat" followed by "Power Seal" will bring white up really nice, after a good clay bar of course.
Gives a nice "wet look" shiny finish and lasts quite a while.
Got mine from Polished Bliss who are a decent bunch Welcome "Lola"

I know a good one around the manchester area who does it for love and not profit and his results are good enough for concurs events
To be fair if you can get the solid or at least the rubber load liners with dogs about and febreeze has some special one my brother uses in his cars after the wet dog events and swears by it. Failing that a steam clean to kill the bacteria off and then a dehumidifier to dry the car back out
There are also those cheap roll up picnic blankets with a rubbery plastic type base that are good if you spin them round so the rubber side is facing the dogs so it doesn't seep into the soft material FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner
