The Owner's Handbook is not helpful by stating that with ECON pressed, the air conditioning is off. So what gets turned off by engaging the OFF button?
Fuel economy is obviously improved by not having the air conditioning put a load on the engine. The fan is controlled by its own switch. I can't think of something else that can be turned off here. Is this just a "fiddle switch".A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Off is everything off including the fan. ECON just turns off the aircon compressor Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it
Sorry, Shrinky, it's Friday and I'm just not getting this.
ECON turns off the compressor, FAN turns off the fan(s) - so what is left for OFF to turn off?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

If you mean the round fan contol then this you can set the fan speed manually to keep a constant flow or leave it to automatically adjust.Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it

ECON tries to to get to the set temperature without engaging the aircon compressor (ie with whatever temperature air is available inside and outside) IIRC...
OFF is all off
You can still set temperature and fan settings in both ECON and ON (Auto) mode, but if you put it to 18 for example and it's 25 outside you won't get far

ECON without the fan blowing will allow air to enter the passenger compartment, more noticable when moving.
OFF means just that, OFF, no air coming into the passenger compartment.

Off Switch:
Switches off all of the functions controlled by the ATCM (all tell-tale LED's are extinguished). The temperature blend door is set to the full cold position (if the A/C system is in the automatic mode, if the A/C system is in the economy mode the current door position is retained); the air source is set to recirculation; the current distribution settings are retained; the blower speed is set to zero. Where fitted, the seat heater switches and the auxiliary climate control switch can still be operated without re-activating the ATCM. The ATCM is re-activated, with all functions in the previous operating state, by a second press of the off switch or by pressing the economy switch. The ATCM can also be re-activated, with the associated effect, by the following switches: The automatic mode switch. Any air distribution switch. The blower switch. The programmed defrost switch. The recirculation switch.
Economy Switch:
Reduces the A/C compressor output to a minimum displacement condition x 5%, reducing the engine load required to operate the A/C compressor. An amber LED in the switch is illuminated when the economy mode is selected on.
Thanks DG, It starts to make a bit more sense now. A lot more complicated than "if hot, open window".

tbh, It's the same as nearly every car I've had before. Have you never had a car with climate control before? Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it
Shrinky, no! That's why I'm trying to turn it off, don't need air-con in Scotland but the fuel economy would be useful instead.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill.
