Clutch Slip?

A simple question but I dread the answer......I have a manual D3 with 90000 miles recorded. When I accelerate in 6th gear the engine revs fluctuate slightly during the increase in road speed. This is only apparant when in 6th gear. I can accelerate hard in any other forward gear with no fluctuation noticeable. Also, a warning has appeared about the electric parking brake having a release fault. XYZ sensor comes to mind, but also so does clutch slip. Do I need a replacement clutch assembly, or something rather less expensive? Mike M.

Your instincts are probably correct. Avoid hard acceleration in 6th, and don't use cruise control in 6th either. That way it should last a long time. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I've had clutch slip, in the past (see link to thread) but it hasn't done it for 18 months (that's blown it!

Try pressing the clutch right down when changing gear for a while. I have wondered if the concentric cylinder get a 'ridge' inside when the clutch pedal is only pressed to the same position a lot of times?

That's an interesting hypothesis rrhool, there is an option in live values to view the operation of the clutch pedal which is represented on a scale of 0 to 100%. I can't remember though if it was in iCarsoft or IID, perhaps both but it is definitely there! yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Interesting, I'll have a look for that.
I wasn't aware there were any sensors on the clutch system that could measure pedal position. I assumed it just had a switch to indicate movement from zero. Richard

Its in parking brake live values (untested values) so is related to the EPB auto release, but probably required by vehicle dynamics elsewhere.
