Too Cold To Camp?
Thinking of going this weekend to the lakes camping in the expedition trailer.
BUT we've never been this early...
Seems pretty cold on a night at the moment and the MRs is worried the 2 year old will be too cold.
How do you hardened campers keep warm.
Does anyone use a heater of some sort or is it just wrap up in many layers and a thick bag??
Advice much appreciated...

Decent foam or semi inflatable mat underneath, decent sleeping bag and if necessary an extra blanket over the top.

Me and the Mrs are up on the top of the trailer the young one is in a travel cot that sits about 3" off the floor the ground sheet is sewn in and very thick.

Camped many times in the past at Easter using a tent but as long as your bed is off the ground and you follow the advice of other posters [decent sleeping bags blankets over + HWBs for the bairns] you will be fine. Nothing quite matches the early morning with a hint of frost. Get the bacon cooking and listen for all the zips going up as the aroma wafts about the camp site.

We have camped in all weathers with the little ones. Our oldest, now 6 has been out in snow. It's just about taking enough to be warm, one thing we have done is take a big duvet, always nice to sit on or use as another layer in bed. The other thing we use is those picnic blankets with a waterproof back, they fold up small and can be used to sleep on under sleeping bags or as a carpet in the day.
I would get away, just be prepared.

I've camped in the past and woken up with snow on the tent
We were all nice and warm inside, loads of layers on top (2 x double sleeping bags and quilt), but remember plenty of layers underneath as well
Worse part was before going to bed in the evening.....so make sure you have a) Alcohol b) warm drinks c) get yourself one of those little gas heaters
2 year old will be fine as long as wrapped....we used to sleep with Harry when he was that age as he was like a giant hot water bottle Iggy/Ieuan

I'm off camping with my kids this weekend. Lots of warm clothes, hot water bottle, blankets and a small heater like this and you'll be fine.
Remember to turn it off though and leave some ventilation.

We regularly sailed and camped with our little ones throughout the year. As others have indicated, most cold will come up from below rather than be air temperature related. We used to turn a single duvet 90 degrees and lie the wee ones on that, and then fold it over them. Moo, gotta say, there is no way on this earth that I would have one of those heaters any where near my tent or bivvy.
Those things are an accident waiting to happen, far too many horror stories surrounding fossil fuels and tents. Better off with an extra jumper and a mug of tea/soup.

I agree with Narpy. Without going into the truly awful detail my wife and i once saw a tent explode into flames that no one could get near. A heater was the cause. We could not go camping again after that. Too awful to contemplate.
