Colour keyed Trim

I needed a 'double take' on this Disco3 parked outside Guy Salmon in Coventry - very nice. Cost ? £2000 +VAT sir. Very reasonable he said.
Hope the photos are OK - had to use my camera phone.
I think it looks really good.

I quite like that Embarassed

Although I imagine it'd look MUCH better with a darker coloured D3. Or any colour other than silver Laughing

Do you know, I have just had a quote from my spray guys to possibly do the same because my plastic trim is shot after a month (mentioned in earlier posting). They quoted £1000 to colour code the lot, but my D3 is in black and I was not sure Confused , now I am Very Happy . Thanks for that Discomad

BN. £1000 is much more reasonable, although a lot of cash with little resale value.

Martin, so what do you have against silver cars ? mine is in the background in the first photo.

Once upon a time, the most poular colour for a car (in general) was red. Now, here and in the US it is silver.

I actually think that trim colour treatment would look good in any colour

I've got nothing against silver cars at all - my Dad's car (BN - Razz) is silver Smile

I just think that the silver D3 needs some contrasting black trim to make it look smart. However every time I come back to have a look at this it gets better looking. I would be interested to see some other colours - it's a very similar effect to what can be done to the new MINI, and I think that lookest best with darker colours.

I wasn't slagging silver cars off - how dare I with so many D3's about in silver Embarassed

Martin, keep your dads car clean, I am just waiting for a drive in it, I will even hover over the seats rather than sit on them Very Happy . Re the D3's what we need is a computer wizard (Martin Wink ) to do a mock up from a picture with the plastics colour coded. I reckon my black D3 with painted black bits would look quite the business Twisted Evil . Add a few extra's and its a different car 8) . See I'm getting quite enthusiastic now Laughing .

I've seen this before, at Guy Salmon in Stockport, maybe its a Guy Salmon thing!

I have also seen this on a burgundy D3 (I am sure burgundy has a different name in Land Rover language but I can't remember it).

I have used Autoglym bumper protector on my car today, and the plastic looks as good as new. Its far cheaper than painting them!

But I do agree, it looks good. I would think black would look very good indeed.

Gareth my plastic trim went bad after about a month, so I obtained the quote as a result, but then chickened out because of devalueing the car, now I think differently. My plastic started to discolour and actually fade (in this country with this weather) which makes it look grey. Black on black I think, any thoughts guys and no yellows please Rolling Eyes

Have you washed the vehicle? If so, what detergent, if any, did you use?

It does look good, very 'bling'

My only concern would be the cost of replacing the plastic trim, having had colour coded bumpers replaced in the past I know the plastic is the cheap bit compared with the cost of repainting.
Whether you're off road or in Tescos car park those plastic bits are likely to be the first bits to take a whack. I'm not sure how much LR charge to replace them but it'd going to be a lot cheaper without the paint

My three peneth worth...
