I've vague memories of reading similar thoughts about the "modern" P38 Range Rover. Probably in the letters section of Autocar.
24 years on, I still prefer the design of the Classic Rangie. I'm certain I'll still feel the same about the D3/4 and the D5 long into the future. Each to their own though. Thumbs Up

I put the original D3 (not the D4) on to my personal list of automotive design greats. I regret not keeping my 2006 HSE.

Lets get this right are you saying that the D5 is more difficult to drive than the D3/D4?
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

My other ride is a Fiat Ducato, now that is a commanding driving position.

After a day in that getting in the D4 is like getting in a sports car Smile

If that's aimed at me, the answer is no.

Are you saying that the D5 has superior all round visibility to the D3/4? It could be because of my height, but I found the A and C pillars on the D5 more visually obstructive in comparison to the D3/4. The rear glass seemed smaller as well, but that might have been an illusion.

Either way, I chose to replace my smashed up MY16 D4 with a used MY16 D4 rather than a new D5. Even with the generous offer from NFU to supply me with a D5 at a discount. Why? Because I'm more comfortable in a D4 and its design suits my current needs better than a D5.

I'm really pleased that the D5 suits your needs etc. In fact I'm even a little envious, as I like to plan in advance what my next vehicle will be. So far I've yet to find a replacement without making quite a few compromises.

Thumbs Up

Hark at the guy who jettisoned his for a full fat ...are you saying that is equally as dated as a D4 and that gets you a get out of jail card? Whistle Wink

I loved my D3s & 4s with a passion ...but they are yesterdays motors now and although they were an iconic design, by comparison they are clearly dated ...onwards and upwards Thumbs Up

Unfortunately, when my last, ex LR Management, D4 went sick on me and I decided that I wanted to go new again, LR had been careless enough to stop building them and at that point we both had to compromise. The FF is worse than the D4 in some aspects and better in others, although I’m quite happy to acknowledge about where it’s worse. How about you?

Fashion and “datedness” is of no interest to me, only the quality of the original design counts. Should fashion really be used as an excuse to cover up basic shortfalls in design, where they exist? I’m imagining early adopters of Jaguar XJS’s saying how dated the “old fashioned” E-Type was Rolling Eyes

I have a funny feeling that we’re not going to agree on this... Whistle

Yep I am planning a full review after 3 months ...but you have had yours for what must be a year now...if you could let us know the good and bad points about the FFRR then that would be appreciated ....I'm pretty sure there will be some interested enough to focus only on the bad points Thumbs Up Wink

Please keep the reviews simple, so that us Luddites in our ancient vehicles can understand. I’ve heard folk say that those modern Land Rovers can be worked from a contraption they call a mobile. Must be witchcraft!

The prototype longer wheelbase D5, with revised rear end styling, looks as if visibility is pretty good:
