how to connect parking brake switch

Hi, just about to finish install my kos v1000 and Kna-g431AU Navigation unit, however according to the manual both of them need to be tap into the parking brake switch for some safety reason. I am wondering what specific safety issue may arise if i don't connect these wires? and also which location i need to look at if i do need to connect those wires? Thanks in advance.

The 'safety' issue is to stop you being able to programme the unit unless the parking brake is ON - ie you are stationary.

Not always what you want - see many 'sat-nav on the move' threads.

All you need to do is to find out it it wants voltage on the wire to make the unit active, or no voltage to make it active - usually it is the former. Find a suitable switched supply and connect it there and, hey presto, working sat nav that can be altered on the move.

Most just require you to put the wires down to earth
