The cooler works by cooling to about 10 - 18 degrees (not sure on the exact spec) below the ambient temperature so if it was 8 degrees (inside the cab) it would be possible to take the temperature below freezing if the cooler was on. I don't think there is a fault unless the cooler is meant to switch off. I would be cautious about getting it "fixed" as you may find in the summer that it doesn't cool anything. It's not like a fridge where the temperature is controlled by a thermostat it just cools regardless if temperature. So if it was -4 it would still try and cool below that whereas a fridge wouldn't. Equally if it was 50 degree your cooler will cool to between 40 and 32 degree (roughly) but a fridge would try and cool to about 4 degrees.

Does that make sense / help?

Stu makes sense if it shut down when ignition was off, car would not be at 8c if being driven so stuff in there would not be frozen. Will see what the stealer says when it goes in re it not shutting off. The manul definately says it shuts down after a short time, maybe the timer thingie is screwie.

This thread has been very informative! Thumbs Up

I used to have problems with my blue switch one, in particular it would drain the battery. Some time ago it started to get better, but I assumed it was as a result of a software upgrade during a service.

Since I replaced the alternator, it has been faultless ( I am of the opinion that the original alternator had never worked correctly from day one).

While the cooler works correctly I'll leave it be. Besides, any replacements now are at my expense.
 Have a nice day!
