Cooper LTZ spare

Just got the Cooper LTZ 18's put on.

But couldn't get the spare back under the car.

A quick question for others here with them on does yours fit? Do i just need to be a bit less gentle.

Or am I up for a rear wheel carrier

thanks

Deflate it a bit and it should go in. Of course this is only useful if you carry a compressor to reinflate when needed. Thumbs Up

Or you could do away with the heat shield, but I don't know if this would cause problems.

My suggestion would be to try harder. I deflate my 265/70/17 down to about 12psi, and then push it up into the wheel well more or less doing a bench press under the car. I am apprehensive about killing the winch by overloading it, so I keep the winch cable taut, but do the heavy work myself.

Also strongly suggest you gaffer tape or sign the valve saying "DO NOT INFLATE IN SITU". Diligent dealers will do you the "favour" of checking the pressure and pumping it up to 40psi!, which can't be good for the rear body structure.

If you've put the tyre in correctly, you cant pump it up in situ, as the valve will be facing the boot floor.

I got 20" LTZ's on, but just run with the standard spare.
After all that's what it is ... a spare!
Thumbs Up

Following everyones advice

Let the tire down and with a bit of leverage ( 4 x2 ) eased it into the spare compartment

Pretty sure it is not coming out in a hurry. Which is a good thing since the winch has decided that it will not wind in the last 3 inches. Crap piece of junk.

I think that the rear carrier is def on the cards. As I am positive that the significant other has no chance of getting the spare out on her own.

Muz
Sounds like you need something to pump them up.
Like the D3s own compressor?

Can you hook something up to the D3's compressor? Didn't realise that.

I have my own bushman in the car anyway.

Kit to take air off the tank. Wink
There is nine litres at 230 psi plus in the tank, a lot of useful air. Thumbs Up

Don't listen to Caver, he's just trying to sell his kit. Wink

If you're happy with your compressor, no further expense is necessary. Thumbs Up

I'll get my coat. Thud

Justa thought, what is actually stopping the tyre going in. Is a modification/removal possible to help. Question

Is it possible to get an engineers certificate or something of the like to legitimise Cooper LTZ’s on a Discovery 3?

Given the amount of larger wheels fitted to 4wd’s you see driving around the roads, I can’t believe they are *all* illegal? Whistle

RTA (NSW) rule seems to be -
“Minor changes to wheels:
The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter
wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel
and tyre combination specified for the vehicle.”

Which the Cooper LTZ’s (285/60R18) overstep being ~36mm larger diameter than standard…?

Btw, they look like one very impressive tyre..! Thumbs Up
