Cooper STT's - best pressure...? |
|
Simple question (I hope...)
Any recommendations on best tyre pressure for 17" Cooper STT's ? They are curerntly at 3 bar / 45 psi but that seems high. Was thinking 2.4 bar / 35 psi.
To be used now (not sand etc) - road, bit of mud/soft ground and driving on forested tracks for this weekend.
Thanks. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

STT are soft edge tyres, they always look slightly under inflated. I go for around 3 bars to avoid too much wearing...

Running my new 255/70/17 AT2's at 34 front and 37 rear i.e. 1 up from standard, seem fine at this although fronts look a little saggy but put that down to the slight oversize. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

That's the same pressures I've run all my tyres on the D3, Andy.

Well, to be honest, I think they have ended up at 35psi all round...so I haven't listened to anyone...
yet - until I get to a fuel station tomorrow...then I will have to decide who to believe... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

The one thing i wouldn't believe is a fuel station tyre pressure gauge I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

The "rule of thumb" is:
- check tyre pressures cold,
- take it for a run sufficient to bring tyres to operating temperature,
- check pressures of "hot" tyres.
The difference should be 4 psi. If less, the tyres are OVERPRESSURE, if more, tyres are UNDERPRESSURE.

Peter

you live and learn...I never knew about the 4psi difference between hot and cold
