Are Cooper STT's directional?

I just put on my 17" wheels and Cooper STT's, as I am off for three days green laning next week, and noticed that the tyre pattern is different on each side of the D3.

On the near side the chevron outer edge (for want of better description) goes toward the front of the car. On the off side it goes to the rear.

I don't find any marking on the tyres to say they are directional, and they are asymmetric, just looked odd when I noticed it. Embarassed

Feedback on the noise: Yes there is noticeably more rumble that the scorpions, but still something I can live with. Discovery 3 XS Auto, Stornaway, Active rear diff.

What you have described is a non-directional tyre, as a non-directional (asymmetric) tyre has different tread patterns on its inner and outer sides. An asymmetric tyre (unless directed by the manufacturer - as normally indicated on the tyre sidewall) can be used in any position on the vehicle.

The STT tyre noise reduces quite a bit after 400-500kms of usage.

Hi Martin,

No, they are not directional.

Apart from the rumble, did you also notice the vibration that happens below 40km/h just before you stop? I had that on a Defender, and did not know what it was, and it took a couple of visits to LR to convince me there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Laughing
